I just thought I'd show you all an email I have fired off to my MP. I had a bad day on the NCR with idiots using phones and earlier, driving in my cage had a particularly bad altercation with a total twat driving his Mercedes while on the phone - a real bad combination Shocked

Feel free to amend it a bit and send it to your own MP!

Quote:
Dear Mr. Dismore,

The government passed legislation earlier on the 1st December 2003 making it an offence to use mobile phones whilst driving. Initially the number of drivers observing the law was high, however since that time the number of drivers using mobile phones is, mostly back to levels prior to the legislation.

You might ask yourself why is one of your constituents writing to you about this subject?

The main reason is that I commute daily on a motorcycle to work. I ride on the North Circular, one of the accredited most dangerous roads in the country that requires total concentration and diligence! Every day, without fail I pass at least five cars where the driver has his or her mobile to their ear. At least once a day I pass (filter in heavy traffic) a car where the driver is on the phone who is meandering in their lane. They are not doing this on purpose but because they are not concentrating they are incapable of driving in a straight line. Finally, at least once a month, I have to take drastic action to prevent myself being killed or seriously injured as a result of a driver who is using their mobile phone, who performs a manoeuvre without signalling, consideration for other road users and is not concentrating.

I also had occasion to witness a driver on their phone having such an animated conversation on their phone that they drove over the kerb.

I believe it will not be long before someone is killed as a result of this behaviour. Since the legislation has been passed there has been very little Government Information or advertising, warning drivers of the dangers of using phones. Equally it appears, from where I sit on my motorcycle(!), that the law is not being enforced. Therefore can I, as a member of the public report mobile phone offences to the police, and if I can would they do anything about it? If i am unable to do so what steps will the Government take to irradicate this highly anti-social and dangerous behaviour?

I await your reply with interest.

Yours sincerely

Cheers, Jonathan

Andrew Dismore
MP for Hendon

and this what the police said: -

Quote:

Dear Mr Dismore,

Thank you for your letter dated 14th July 2004, in which you have cause to complain about motorists who use their mobile phone while driving.

I am sorry that you have had cause to write. I have forwarded your letter to Chief Inspector Caterer, who is responsible for officers who patrol this Borough. Either he or one of his staff will contact you in due course.

Yours sincerely
G Barnard
Staff Officer to Borough Commander

My MP is the biggest plonker on the planet - this is not a Borough issue but a national issue - I would have written to my Councillor. I am going to write to him again and get him to speak to Alistair Darling and David Blunkett.

It makes me so cross! Mad Mad

David Blunkett is a bloody loose cannon who couldn't organise a nun shoot in a nunnery. Bugger writing to him, attracting attention to the fact you ride a motorcycle is only going to bring him down on the evils of motorcycling.
