Daytona 600

Has anyone on here got/had one? What are they like? Reliability? Running costs?

A good friend of mine bought one. He spend a fair bit of money on his, doing servicing and changing tyres, brake pads etc. So just general stuff really.

Overall it was a lovely bike, they are beautiful and it did shift when he opened the throttle. sounded great too.

There were a couple of things on his though. You had to blip the throttle to start it, weather cold or warm it just would not start off the button. It also seemed to take forever to catch. It vibrated like hell about 6k revs also. I think it had had a hard life to be honest.

If one came up for the right price, that had been looked after i wouldn't hesitate to buy it!

Just make sure it has been regularly serviced, and the owner understands how to care for it . They don't take abuse well.

I've heard from a couple of people including a mechanic that they can be problematic?

I want something 'solid' for a while which is one of the reasons for selling the Duc. I'm looking at 05 636's but I prefer the Daytona and they also come out more affordable to buy and insure as marjay said

try one and see if you like it. If you are thinking of the 600, why not go for the 650 ? Nice to have a bit extra like 10% extra free.

With this group of bikes (tt600/speed four etc) the engine is less than ideal, but the handling is very good. Suspension and brakes are all sports bike standard.

Personally I think the daytona 600 is a bit overpriced compared to the TT600, which is dirt cheap, just not as pretty.

They seem to hold their value better than I think is justified.
I'd go with a J/A model zx6 personally, which seems to do all the same things, but generally better.

The British company fully intends for it to meet the best of the Japanese middleweights head-on. On price alone it is right in there, in the real world it's up at the top as a bike you can use every day, but get it out on a track and that's where you will see the difference. It's just an astonishing bike.

Had one for a few years. Never had any problems with it mechanically apart from the Datatool Alarm eating batteries, nothing a trickle charger wouldn't sort. It did have a recall repair that required a fuel line fitting to be replaced, just make sure thats been done.

Really nice handling bikes on the road (it won the IOM TT in it's first year) not as quick in a straight line as the other 600's of the same year, but was more than able to hold it's own.
Nice and roomy with plenty of wind protection and a bit more of a relaxed riding position compared to the head down arse up position of other 600's.
Some fittings are a bit cheap and furred up over the winter. Plus the finish could have been better in some places. Although it was still a lot better than my mates GSXR.

I know a guy with a Daytona 600 2003 I believe for 3 grand.

It's yellow so if you are interested then PM me. He has a 2009 Ninja now but won't budge on the 3k price tag.

Good condition and he looked after it nicely.

I've seen a 600 for 2600 and a 650 for 3000 but if I'm going to spend 3k I think I'll go for the 636.

Yeah I think that 3k is too high, my friend told me his friend didn't budge for him and I could get it for 3 k, but I said no.

I just sold my 04 Daytona 600 for £2100

14,000 miles, I didnt own it very long, but in the short time I had it the battery went flat due to datatool

Fair enough bike, not super pokey, but happily cruises. Rather noisy engine wise...very tappy even after a full triumph service!

They are nice, but you may get bored quick...was very confidence inspiring for me

I had a Speed Four (pretty much the same bike) although the fuel injection system was moved to a Keihn system on the Daytona's which i am led to believe lets it run a bit better than the Sagem.

I found the S4 to be very well built - used through 3 winters, lived outside - and still came up looking like new.

Handling was excellent, brakes were excellent, engine was quick enough.

Only problems i had was the Datatool s3 eating the battery ( bit of a trend there i think) and the generator packed taking the reg/rec and battery with it...

Overall a good bike, but dont dismiss the Jap stuff.

A workmate has one, lovely thing if you ask me, the looks are in the marmite camp but I quite like em, the tarty cosmetic mods on it certainly help though, integrated indis, black screen and headlight covers and valmoto decals, quite tasty really.

It certainly seems plenty quick enough and he finds a ton easier to ride than the 00 R6 he had before it (Mind you that thing was a nail). Only issue I know of that he had with it was the water temp sensor getting a bit stroppy at one point, he now has a fan switch wired in to be safe incase it happens again.

I do miss mine...and I dont get attached to bikes..
