No real point in getting one of the faired bikes like the RS50, as they have just the same performance as the un faired bikes, and that fairing will cost a lot to repair when you drop it or crash it or you'll have to just sell it for a lower price without fixing it up.

Get something like a DT50 or a TS50 or any of the other un faired 50cc geared bikes. They'll perform pretty much the same as things like the RS50 and cost a lot less to buy and are a lot less easily damaged in general learning and using.

You can derestrict them all yourself if you want to so thats a cost of £0. Thumbs Up .

It's not worth spending much on a 50cc as you're only using it to learn on, and when you're old enough you'll be able to get a 125cc and do your test and move up to bigger bikes. Spending money on the bikes really isn't worth doing as you'll not get anywhere near what you spend when you come to sell it and spending any money modifying the bike will make it harder to sell as not as many people want a bike which has been modified, and you'll get no real improvements to the bike for your money so just get a cheap 50cc bike which works, use it for the year then move on up when you're old enough. Smile

Hope this is vagally helpful. Thumbs Up

you will get that alot with learner bikes. Some of the shit ive heard people come out with claiming 125's will do 130mph, 50's will do 90 etc Laughing

The RS50 engine is not capable of more than 50mph(realistic speed). the same engine is in the RX50 which seems to be a decent bike if you are a fan of the dirtbike look

They're talking out their arses if they're telling you it will do 90! No 50cc will do much over 50mph even with a lot of money spent on "tuning" bits for it all they do is make it harder to sell and cost money to buy.

Pah, 100mph is that all? He should get himself a bigger power band to go in his engine as it should then be able to go about 110mph without any troubles. And I bet he hasn't got himself a racing chain for his bike either! If he gets one of these then he should be then able to add about another 10mph to his bike! And you can get them colour matched to your bike so it looks better, but you'll then be able to get so much more out of them, if you have both of them and they're colour matched it'll be good for about 150mph!!

And I bet he hasn't even thought about weight saving! Brake fluid is not needed, just drain it out and run your brakes dry and it'll go faster as less weight, and any rider who is good doesn't need to brake anyway! Bet he also has his two stroke tank filled up! You don't need two stroke, all you need to do is add sugar to your petrol tank, not only will it make the bike run like on two stroke, it will also make it run lots faster as the sugar is better than normal petrol and two stroke oil. The more you add the faster you'll go!! Also, take your numberplate off, as that just acts like a big wind flap and slows you down! Just take it right off, as once you're able to go fast enough the police won't be a problem anyway. Adding a set of neon lights to the bottom of your bike bits will mean it is able to cut through the air faster and will therefore go lots faster! The more you add the better, so add them everywhere you can do.

With all this lot done, your 50cc will be good for about 200mph, so you'll leave Mr 100mph standing and he'll want to be let in on the secrets! You can if you want to, but have some fun until you do, and also you can beat bigger bikes with your little 50cc, so try and race them off traffic lights, they'll laugh as you're on a 50cc let them win to start with, then surprise them by going past them very very fast and they'll not know what happened. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

This stuff is not actually serious, if you blow your bike up or get laughed at as you ask for a bigger power band don't blame anyone but yourself, as it's all not true! You can still tell other people that this is what to do to make their 50cc faster and see what happens then. Smile

I have to disagree with you here. I bought a moped to commute to work on and ended up with a Rieju RS2 Matrix 50cc which goes off the clock. I had heard they were one of the quickest scooters on the market so out of curiosity I took it down a by-pass with a collegue behind me (in his car) and it hit 73mph. Now taking into account Im 30years old and weigh 14.5 stone I should imagine it going even quicker with a skinny 16 year old on.

Thumbs Up

Best cars website? It's a picture of a bike and it's watermarked with best cars website.
Also as the members of this site have said "a 50cc wont do over 50mph"

Ste - there you go again with your claims of knowledge, youve never proved that a 50cc sportsbike can do only 50mph, so why say it. In the REAL world a de-restriced faired sportsbike E.g. rs50 will do 55-60. Bigger carbs, big bore kits and racing exhausts may push this up to 70 but the speedo may show anything

Would my thinking of a big bore kit be right? As it would make the bike higher than 50cc.

Yes, there are many different kits ranging between 68 - 75cc.

Although af1 racing are producing a stroker kit, which compromises of a new crankshaft with a longer stroke creating an increased capacity so with a 75cc big bore kit fitted this could be inceased to 83cc

I find that very hard to believe Thumbs Down, so how fast is it going to go with a lighter rider 80 Rolling Eyes .

Don't worry, when a 50cc rider says that they have actually reached 70mph or 80mph they're using the logic of "take the true top speed and double it" as they think the rest of the world isn't aware of the laws of physics and the lack of power in a 50cc.

Am i the only person who finds that the terms "50cc" and "Sportsbike" don't really look right next to each other? Razz

id get the new tzr50. it does 50mph de-restricted(fact). (an indicated 60mph). they are reliable unlike the rs and derbi's which are a bit faster. ts50 is impossable to de-restrict so dont get one of those for performance(however they are bullet proof on the reliability side.
