Well, had my first accident today! Nothing special, I was a bit of a retard coming off a roundabout at about 10mph, overbalanced and slid off unspectacularly. Crash bung took most of the brunt.
Damage to me - a tiny graze to my hand - will need some new gloves I think!
Damage to the bike, bent crash bung, broken front indicator cover (the indicator itself still works though), tiny scratch to front fairing, and a broken gear lever.
Was stopped by the side of the road with 2 friends, we are all fairly new bikers. We assessed the damage and it just so happened when I bought the bike a few weeks ago it came with a spare new gear lever which I still had under the seat. Seeing as we were all fairly new to bikes and only about 10 miles from home we were about to make the decision to just ride it home slowly in 2nd gear and sort out the gear lever at home.
At that point a van pulled up at the side of the road where we were standing with 3 guys in it, asking if I was ok and what happened. They said they were all bikers, were really friendly and said if I rode round to the mcdonalds car park about 2 mins down the road they'd help fit the new lever.
Rode round the corner in 2nd gear, and they basically fitted the lever for me in about 5 minutes , after which I had an uneventful ride home!
So if any of you happen to use this forum, thankyou so much for your help! Makes you glad to be a biker when you experience camaraderie like that. One day I'll return the favour to another biker! |

I was fiddling with the speedo drive, at the side of the road.
5 bikers rode passed me without stopping.
However a chap in his late 80s driving a MK2 Escort drove passed and stopped and asked if I needed a hand.
Not all bikers are helpful, not all car drivers are cxnts. |
I've never undestood the whole thing about drivers being cunts amongst bikers.
I've driven a car for 10 years before I started biking and never ever had issues with motorcyclists. In fact if anything I was always a bit worried that they popped up out of nowhere and was quite happy that they were more manoeuverable and quicker to get off a red light than I was. (I also secretly always envied them in traffic jams, but never got pissed off or anything).
Now I'm on bikes it's the same thing, never had issues with car drivers.
But really it's bicyclists who are the dicks not car or motorcycle drivers! They think they own the road and have never even taken a single road test. Especially the young hipster dicks on bicycles in London who literally wally around the whole road.
Sometime ago I was in my car in central london, I saw a row of bicyclist hipster green peace dicks who as usual were wallying around off the traffic lights in front of us, creating traffic and generally pissing everyone off as bicyclists do. One bloody amazing courier accelerating from filtering way behind just flew through the junction and straight through the bicyclist hipsters. He was so close I could have sweared to God he was going to hit one of them, one of the chump bicyclists intuitively looked behind him to see the courier coming and in trying to get out of his path crashed into another bicyclist. At that very moment the courrier unflinching and not changing his course was flying through them so close, had the chump not moved I swear the courrier would have hit him, and must have been at more than 35mph.
It was brilliant and very satisfying to watch. Two london bicycle hipster chumps lying on the road receiving hard justice from a legendary courrier. I know deep down inside that many people were happy to see that on that junction. |

Yeah, those hipster cyclists having fun. Bastards. Good job your hero courrier ran them down like that....
It would seem your tolerance levels and attutude to other road users is at fault, you and the courrier.
You knob |
There is a high percentage of dick on push bikes who will cut across the road or fly out at a 90 degree angle without looking.
Every time one goes through a red I I honestly wish they would get hit by a car.
I remember seeing one guy doing that thing where they balance on the bike at a traffic light. He had cleats on and obviously wasn't very good at balancing as he fell off still attached to the bike ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
Skudd:- Perhaps she just thinks you are a window licker and is being nice just in case she becomes another Jill Dando.
WANTED:- Fujinon (Fuji) M42 (Screw on) lenses, let me know if you have anything. |

Running cyclists off the road / forcing them to fall is not, it makes you (the courrier in this case) part of the problem.
And, really? you actually want another human being to be hit by a car?
Now theres a lot of knobs on the road that do idiotic and irrational things, be they bikers, car drivers, cyclists and also for that matter pedestrians. Some of them I'd like to see banned so that they stop endangering everyone esle but not hit by cars. |
You've clearly not seen what happens in London then, if you lived in London you'd know what a hipster dick on a bicycle is, try and spot the fluorescent stickers, rims and ridiculous clothing. They are these people on this video below at 0:15 seconds in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVmmYMwFj1I
I'm a careful driver, never had any trouble with motorcyclists, cars and pedestrians but endless problems with bicycle people thinking they own the road.
When you see a dick go out on a red and then ride around as if he owns the road nearly causing accidents, worse the green peace righteousness about them.
No one mentioned running them off the road or killing them, but teaching the ones that behave like they own the road a lesson and they are many.
And that courier was a legend because he was using the road correctly, not a throng of hipsters creating impenetrable lines of green peace political correctness.
Many people in london are aware of this and they don't like it. |
