You might get lucky at a breakers. The one near me does seem to have alot of superbikes in tho.
The usual places..Here on BCF. Stelmer is soon to sell his GSX and others sell bikes.
I found my last bike at the right price on MCN after searching for months. i.e look everywhere including local ads.

Good idea. I'll check the ads on here.

A couple of people on here have mentioned insurance auctions and secret auctions is that for normal people or traders only ?

They often aren't that cheap.

Have a look at the sticky 'read this first' thread at the top of this forum for a thread listing places to find bikes for sale.

Yes, but figure in the costs to straighten it up first. Bikes with just fairing scratches and broken bars and levers sell for a decent price.
Get a budget..stick to it..search for your chosen cc config ..blah..blah

Hmmm, your bike isn't that valuable, a winter of use at the very worst would drop it by £200. So that is £200 for the loss on a new bike, extra insurance, tax, MOT..., transport to get a new bike, selling fees when you need rid of it, think it'd be better to just ride yours through winter even when you count in expensive sports bike running costs, tyres and corrosion etc.

I have had the same thoughts by the way, figured I'd just ride mine and stomach the corrosion Sad .

Yea, I'd have to agree. Give it a good coating of ACF50 and get on with it, wipe off in spring, sorted Smile.

Not on ebay usually. Mostly inflated prices often.

You can get a deal but a lot of people go there first to look, so often higher demand than supply.

Keep riding the CBR. Thumbs Up If you're dedicated enough, you'll get a bike with stainless steel and titanium all over it next time. Very Happy

Small ads in local papers and shop windows still turn up good bargains, even today. But the best way to find cheap bikes is by word of mouth. This is a good time of year to be buying, when the fair weather lame arses realise they're going to get cold and wet during the autumn/winter and sell up for what they can get Wink

As previously mentioned its a 96 CBR so I can't think it is worth a lot of money. You also said that you'd be happy to streetfighter a bike.

Why not save your money, buy a can of ACF-50 and if you do slide it down the road streetfight it.

I love my bike, sad but true. I did have a 03 plate hornet which i sold on and would rather ride that then CBR, don't know why I've 5 other bikes in the time I've had CBR. Think its because I have done a load of work on it.

I'd be tempted to try and get another CBR of the same age cheaply. You know you like it and if anything goes wrong with either, you've got the parts and knowledge.

Try your local auction centre.
The one up in York is a cattle market (literally) but they do vehicle auctions and the motorbike stuff is on 2nd Saturday of each month.

Ok, they have some pretty ropey stuff in and it's not actually overflowing but there's been some ride away 600s for not much money.

Try also your local bike meet place. I mention this as up here Squires Cafe have a room with peoples for sale notices on the walls.

That said I got my last bike from an advert I saw in the local paper.

HTH Thumbs Up
