Automatic TPO on other bikes?

Hi, a mate told me the other day that if you're fully comp, you're automatically TPO on any bike you're not the owner of (33bhp limited in my case though)

Is this the case or is it dependant on the insurance company?

Also, for a slightly different reason, if I sell my bike and accept payment (so it is 'sold'), can I ride it TPO before the V5 has been signed by the other party, so I can deliver it?

For both questions surely you are better just reading your insurance documentation and contacting them to confirm your cover?

Tpo on fully comp normally only applies if the bike is owned by and also insured by someone else in it's own right.

Double check with the insurance company. Because these days if you take to the streets without insurance, you're more or less guaranteed to get pulled, fined and the dreaded 6-8 points. You will be treated the same as the chav scum who deliberately ride illegally - be warned.

Check you policy to make sure.

Some do some don't. Same as pillion cover some have it as standard some you have to specify you want it and sometimes pay extra.

Most policy's with any bike cover also have a clause which you have to over 25 for it to take affect.

You can be TPO on other bikes but only if the owner has it insured.

certainly not automatic, noticed when i renewed/changed my car insurance this option has now gone.

glad i bought a car with rear seats as i used to rely on it for using my father in laws car

i think it is the over 25 thing, insurance is getting more expensive and more and more bare boned. check with the insurer before you do anything. the police have the power to impound an uninsured vehicle that is being driven illeagally. be warned, if this happens and they have the bike for a week it can easily get to 2-300 £ to get it back plus the fine for no insurance plus the points.

depends on who your insured with. I'm fully comp with H R insurance and I cannot ride any other bike.

eBike allows me to ride any bike up to my license entitlement on a TPO basis, providing the owner of said bike is insured to ride it. Should say at the bottom of your covernote.

I'm 18 and have had ride other bikes on my policy since my 125, it just depends on the company, I am TPFT.
