I'm so glad that's over! Got 3 minors for letting in clutch too early on swerve & emergency stop, and going too wide on the figure of eight. Had to do swerve & emergency stop twice as only got 42kph & 48kph first time round (50 & 56 on second attempt).

Literally went "phew" when he said I'd got to speed the second time!

I wouldn't say it's hard as such, but all along I've been way more worried about MOD1 than MOD2, simply because the slow riding stuff has to be so precise, and there's very little room for mistakes.

I did my CBT in June having never ridden a bike before, but been a car driver for 24 years. Since then rode about for a month or so to get some confidence & I've had regular lessons since then. Had a great trainer from a good school, and it's been well worth the money. I would recommend them to everyone...Ipswich Rider Training in Suffolk.

Last Saturday I had a practise run up at the test centre, and that was invaluable, as I felt much more prepared when I arrived today.

My worst fear was failing the speed test, as that's such a stupid thing to fail on, and as you can see from my first post, I had to have 2 attempts at both bits. It's easy to get up to 50kph (32mph) on a normal road, coming off a roundabout in 2nd gear...you do it all the time, but because you have to go through a "narrow" gap knowing the speed trap is there and that you then have to swerve or stop immediately afterwards my head went into panic mode!!

In short...practise, practise, practise, don't panic, and take your time. There's no time limit for doing the slow manoeuvers, and you get a break between each one. Think about what you're going to do before you start each one, and you'll be fine!

What a great feeling getting rid of those L plates, and the ride home from the test centre without needing a radio !!

I haven't decided which bike yet...I didn't want to get too fixed an idea until I'd passed my test. I'm planning to go and sit on a few & see what fits best. Have considered SV650, CBR600 (but loads of people have those!), Hornet, ER6....gotta try em out, I guess

My ride to work only takes about 5 minutes. A bike is my only form of transport, but it's for fun as well as just a way to get around.
