Handlebar Muffs

I thinking of ways to keep my hand warm this winter.I had the heated grip last winter which were great on your palms ,but on the outside your finger are just as cold

I seen these years ago ,and just didnt fancy them at the time...

My question..
I know they work and does what is says on the tin,but how hard is it to ride not been able to see the controls even though you know where they are,are they easy to get into?

I read on one of the reviews that on some guys outing with them they seemed to pull his front brakes and he cant understand where your power is.

Any pointers/advice

What you mention about folding back onto the brake/clutch lever is true. At least it is very true of cheap muffs which have no rigidity to them at the front. So they just fold over in the wind when you get going.

I have the oxford sports bar muffs - cost more but are made better. Again, not perfect, I've had instances where they weren't sturdy enough so I pierced a hole on the side of them and they are now fixed in position by the handlebar/bar end. Had to nibble away at the grip so it didn't catch on the innards of the muffs but my bike is a piece of shit anyway so I didn't care about that.

As like any change, it gets some getting used to but it's absolutely fine. Wouldn't ride in winter without them! Get some heated grips too!

They are ok if they fit right. Mine didn't and if you took your hand out to do something, getting them back in to brake or clutch can take time and you don't want to be in that situation when you are heading into the back of something.

Borrowed G's Tucano Urbanos this week and they're great, so much better than the Oxford crap I had years ago which put me off muffs completely.

These have a bar end fitment thingy that stops them pushing back on the levers, and I had no trouble at all getting my hands in and out. Not seeing the controls shouldn't be an issue, it's not like you normally look at them before using them (do you?)

Those plastic moto-x brush guards make a difference.

Also, if you fit muffs over the top of them, there is no way they can pull in your brake lever.

My muffs are home-made, out of an old sheepskin coat.

I generally find that they do occasionally push on the levers but only when I get to around 75-80+, which I rarely do in winter unless I'm on the motorway. I also find that riding with the backs of my fingers kind of pushed out between bar and lever doesn't make any difference to my riding and pretty much fixes it when it does happen.

You get used to "feeling" the controls fairly quickly, although I do tend to hit the horn sometimes when going for my indicators. I'd rather have people think I'm a bit of a pillock than suffer with cold hands though!

muffs are ace, but also remember that your hands get cold, if your body decides that core body temperature is dropping, so keeps blood away from your hands. So if you keep your core body temperature up, your hands will feel the benefit.

If you are cold, but dont have enough layers to look like the michelin man, you need more layers of clothing. Down jackets are particularly good, as are ski trousers.
