The examiner checked my Hyosung cruise was on the list when I did my mod1, He confused himself a bit and said it was listed for restricted licence (up to 125cc or something ? A1? )
then corrected it to say I would be ok for the A2 test
so yes they will sometimes check
(but mine was an imported early one and really should have been an A1 but was not on any of his lists where as the cruise 11 was A2 )

Used my HN125 cruiser with a CG engine. it'll just top 65 on a good day. I just gave it a bloody good clean before I went and all the chrome gleaming makes 'em think there's no point checking (neither test got checked). You've got more chance on a cleaner bike basically. and to technically answer the original question, no. If your bike will do speed enough but is on (and presuming they check this) the A1 list, you'll not get an A2 license with it unfortunately ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

I had trouble with this, had a Better capable of going 75mph.
It does depend on the examiner even if you bring a dynojet test result. But they have tightened the rules and I'll say stick to the following and you'll be safe.
If it is A1 you can only do it as an A1, if it is not on the list you can only do it as an A1. Only bikes which are A2 can do it.
If you want to go throught the trouble I did read on:
Phoned the DSA they assured me that yes if my bike was capable of going 62mph then I could do it as an A2.
Came to the exam, examiner said no and presented me with a ridiculous list that I'm taking it as an A1 if I can prove later that the bike goes faster than 62mph I should do it in writing. Mind I had both exams booked already and could not cancel the last Mod 2.
Went and got the bike dyno tested, readings came out as 75mph, saw the evidence on line from various importers and review centre.
Wrote all this into the DSA was told I needed to present a certificate of conformity and/or a the VIN number of the bike and they would check it.
Couldn't get a certificate of conformity (the DVLA should have this and the DSA work for the DVLA) so gave them a VIN number. Another two weeks, still no letter, they come back and tell me because I didn't give them a certificate of conformity bla bla bla, wrote back to them quoting their original letter with my VIN. Stumped them but got another letter from another DSA cronie fobbing me off, nonsense really, basically they couldn't be arsed.
I was then told by the DSA that I could take my test and show evidence but it was the examiners choice whether or not he accepted the bike. Booked my mod 1 again. Went in to do the exam, showed the examiner the dyno test, he said he'd call the DSA up and check wasn't his call, again came the answer yes I could take the exam but I'd have to send the papers into the DSA.
So basically they lied to me 3-4 times, to rape cash out of me.
I bought a Wuyang WY16-125C that was on their A2 list took the exam and sold it at £120 profit, still not enough to cover the insurance, wasted time and bs.
My expenses -
A1 exam Mod 1 & 2 - Approx £90
Dynojet test - Approx £40
2nd A1 exam Mod 1 - Approx £15
A2 exam Mod 1 & 2 - Approx £90
2 months Insurance on bikes- £80
Total cost = £315
-£120 Profit = £195 time wasted and effort = £incalculable waste of time.
If you enjoy passing your A1 and then having to pass it again to do you're A2, get a bike not on their list.
Just by an old banger Honda CG doesn't even have to go 50 and you will pass as an A2, the DSA are one of the most incompetent bodies I've ever had to deal with. |
