new bike in march....

months away yet but im going to get back on the road next yr, so saving now, and i have small company bonus as well, so probably just under £2000 to spend. looking at early R6, 1999 gsxr srad 600 or 750, bandit 1200, or 400 (zxr 0r nc30 )

heres how i see it....

NC30-
PROS: cheap to buy, unusual (ish) nice engine etc, good handling.
CONS: Never guna be a quick as a 600, need hard work to scratch with bigger bikes ( maybe thats the point?!) complex engine if issues arrive.

ZXR-
PROS: Quickest of the 400's, cheap to buy, never owned one...
CONS: Still a 400, thrashed?

R6-
PROS: Very sexy, Manic engine, always fancied one, Speed, handling.
CONS: Still expensive to buy within its ccategoryin comparison to iit'srivals, 2nd gear woes? ( not sure how often this problem arrives )

GSXR 600/750 SRAD:?
PROS: Pedigree, speed, handling, reliability? its a GSXR?!?
CONS: Common as muck! Ive already had one, thrashed to death?

Bandit 1200:
PROS: Big easy power, wheelys (of course) do eeverythingbike, big following, good looking, very tunable, bulletproof engine.
CONS: Heavy, no top end rush, wont handling like a sports bike.

Now these are the pros and cons that i can think of, im just looking for general feedback or advice on all these models, of people have oownedthem or ridden them or soe of them, any issues that i havent mentioned etc....... There al good in their owen right but im looking to buy only one, so you know how it is.... choices choices

I picked up a 2004 ZX6r B1H (636) with lots of expensive goodies for less than your budget.... so would not consider a 15/20 year old 400.

But prices will be higher when you get around to buying it Sad

Christ! thats a bargain for a 2004 sx6r how did you manage that?!!!!

yea im aware that the summer boom will be very much against me at that time of year, but not buy a huge amount i dont think....

eitherway im gettin somthing, cannot stand another yr without a bike, driving me insane!!

A B1H for less than £2000?! Please put me in touch with your dealer lol

I can't seem to find any for less than the £3000 mark, £2750 at a push if its not in the best of condition.

P.S My vote would be for the GSXR out of all the ones you mentioned. The "thrashing" of a sportsbike is likely to have happened on any that you buy, thats mainly the reason people buy them surely. As long as your confident its not been abuse thrashing (i.e while its still warming up) I wouldn't try to focus on that being a deciding factor.

yea i do like gixers, but they are common and i have had one in the past, thy are great dont get me wrong but im still not sure, and yea u are right bout the thrashing issue realy Thumbs Up

r6 seems to be popular on here, and that interests me a bit, never riden one though so....

It's engine is OK TBH, just rebuilt one of these without issue, make sure you get the carbs balanced. I was on track (Brands Indy) with one of these against my R1, I could not catch it on the bends. Be sure to get one with low miles.

Bandit 1200:
PROS: Big easy power, wheelys (of course), big following, good looking, very tunable, bulletproof engine.

No top end rush(this is because they rev to 9000 only Wink ), wont handling like a sports bike, due to it's weight and suspension. It is rather bouncy. Most parts on the bike are budget, so expect things to corrode i.e the exhaust.

Yea i ran a nc35 for a yr and loved it, was a bit of a dog though, what would u consider low millage on these bikes? how strong are the engines?

What about an early R1? Thinking of getting one next year. I'm sure they don't have the same 2nd gear issue as the R6 & they go for around £2,000.

yea early r1 is tempting, but again ive never owned one, ive heard the handling isnt great etc....

eBay is a good friend of mine! It was on eBay starting at £1900 so went there early and offered £1800.

Its not perfect but at that price i dont care! Gilles rear sets, Sprint steering damper, full Akrapovic system, PC3, tinted screen, R&G fairing and exhaust protectors, few carbony bits and spares. 6 Months MOT & 1 Month Tax.

Few small marks here and there, front fairing has been repaired and resprayed really well (although if you look closey it isnt a perfect colour match...).

It is in need of a full service tho so im going to do that soon! Ill get some pics soon!

I have had a early R1. Torqey with good handling, a little saggy compared to the B1h shocks but more than capable and better than the SRADS! I was going to get one till the B1h came up for sale Laughing
