Err... how can you have an 'inline' single?!?

Just followed this link on the '125's will take you anywhere!' thread.

Probably just means the conventional vertical cylinder transverse engine.

Hi

I would think of an inline single as one with the crank in line (ie, pointing at the wheels) rather than having the crank across the frame.

An example would be the old BMW singles.

i agree with the post above. think it just means sat in the frame and following the wheels of the bike with the crank. a transverse honda cg would be something to behold...

That would be a longitudinal engine like old cars, and piston engined aircraft were. The link posted is discussing the CG, so it means a transverse engine, which is what the CG is. Longitudinal engines only make sense for multi cylinder engines like a boxer or MotoGuzzi

Hi

In line I have heard as meaning longitudinal. Just like transverse and across the frame are used interchangeably.

There have been longitudinal singles. Makes perfect sense if you use shaft drive.
