Welcome to the forum.
Winter riding tips. Stay warm. When your cold you dont tend to concentrate as much and take it easy ____________________ illuminateTHEmind wrote: I am just more evolved than most of you guys... this allows me to pick of things quickly which would have normally taken the common man years to master

Apart from staying warm and taking it easy, not much else about winter to be said. Keep your visor clean and fog-free, and maybe get some corrosion protection for your bike.

Yup, hands are the problem. Heated grips or gloves are really the only way to stay warm on a longer trip, but cotton or silk liner gloves help for short trips. Don't neglect your body core though: layering up or wearing a heated vest will actually help to keep your extremities warm, as when your core temperature drops, the circulation to your extremities gets cut off.
It's perhaps not in the CBR idiom, but you can also try handlebar muffs (Ooh, Matron!) or a cheap set of motocross handguards do a surprisingly good job of keeping the worst of the rain and wind chill off of your hands.
On the feet, SealSkinz socks keep water out, although they also keep sweat in. You can waterproof leaky boots by running "Shoe Goo" around the seams.
For re-waterproofing textiles, try NikWax TX Direct Wash In - you can also use it to restore or improve the waterproofing on gloves.
For your bike, I'd recommend ACF-50. It's expensive stuff, but it actually works, and it's cheaper than the parts that it's protecting.
Apart from the obvious hazards of wind, rain, ice and fogging visors, I think the biggest Winter danger is cagers going bike-blind. They just don't expect to see us on the road. |
