I'll leave mileage comments to people with more experience, but I can tell you that I looked into ex-police Pans a few years ago and decided they were more hassle than they were worth.

Conversion back to two seat is a pain in the ass and costs a fortune.

miliage on the pan is bordering on the problem stages,
although they do get pretty well maintained, they do get thrashed as well,
if it was a private sale, then i'd probly wouldnt hesitate,
private riders do long rides, not stop start riding like the cops do

The fact it was a police bike means it was well looked after, but what the other owners have done to it is probably less certain. I would expect it would need regular work.

Police bikes have a much easier life than the average traffic BMW as they are not generally used as response vehicles so are not thrashed from cold that often etc and are looked after like babies.

If the engine sounds good and the bike is in good nick then why not, i suppose it all comes down to the price. As with any secondhand purchase, check it out and if it's all ok Thumbs Up

I always buy higher milage vehicles in preference to low milage granny / warrior owned types..............might be coz i'm lacking funds though Rolling Eyes

Wish someone had told the old bill to look after my current one when they had it, worst pan i have ever owned.

Low mileage, looks tidy but big pile of crap really, gearbox fked, dif ate itself, electrics wonky, abs packed up, rear arm rusty.

The single seat conversion to dual seat is piece of cake, just need a seat, rear pegs and grab handles to do it and takes half hour.

Getting a seat, handles and pegs is the problem, i just took them all off my old one

People say they are good for 200k but can't say i've ever seen one that high.
My last one got to just over 100k, mate gave up at 130k but i'd changed the engine at 80k
Unless it's dirt cheap i'd avoid anything over 100k unless it's just for getting to work on

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
