Dunlop Sportmax issue

I inherited a set of Dunlop Sportmax with my thundercat and it appears that although very competent when dry, in the wet they dance across the road like Michael Flatly on crack. Anybody else have this problem or am I doing it wrong?

Yep, the previous owner of my RS decided it should have the Battlax rear and the Dunlop front, the rear is very planted in the went, but the front, always feels like it wants to dive out slightly, when I get some pennies I will be getting rid of the Dunlop

I have sportmax D208's they have a pretty bad reputation in the wet from lots of different people so I guess there must be some truth in it.
However I've never found them too bad. I always feel like my bike understeers a lot but this was the same when using the conti road attacks I had before, so it is probably more a problem with the set up of the bike (or the rider ) then the tyre.

Yep, the rear stepped out earlier so that provided me with great excitement when I was riding to uni. I have no confidence in them whatsoever and can't wait to get rid of them when I've got the chance.

D207s were notoriously pants! I then switched to qualifiers and were impressed with their improvement. THEN I SWITCHED TO ROADSMARTS and I've bummed them ever since! The only tyre I'd want on my bike now! Rain, Shine, Snow, it takes me where I WANT to go!

Old dunlops and their recent stuff is like chalk and cheese. I'd rate them above bridgestone for road compounds.

I have them front and rear ... i thought the tentative way in which i have to ride in the wet is down to the ....... wet ... but now i'm thinking the tyres dance around excessivly because of this thread ... ??

Oh well .. i'm stuck with them til next year anyhows ...

glad to see its not just me, as enthusiastic as I am for high speed thrills, going sideways round Russell Square this morning wasn't the greatest idea (another biker didn't make it round about 6ish ) nor was losing the rear whilst overtaking on the M11 this evening
perhaps I should get rid of the rubbers like a priest in a choirboy and shell out for some decent hoops before my entire family gets to have a sympathetic round of "I told you so" over my crumpled body

currently got sportmax qualifiers on my k7 and im not digging them. Havent ridden them in the wet yet but find the following with them -

bike likes to run wide
bike slow(er) to turn in
front end likes to slide around easily when pushing hard

Now all the above could be susp setup but as its setup to counter all the above then I reckon the tyres are cock. Trouble is there brand new so cant afford to ditch £200 worth of rubber just yet.

Had qualifiers on my insurance bandit 650, they were great fun in the dry, they had a really roly rather than pointy profile, they seemed to suit the bandit perfectly.

Can't say I noticed they were particularly bad in the wet, did have a massive power-sliding overtake exiting a corner at 60+ once, but that was down to me riding like a dick head rather than the tyres (and sheer luck that I didn't bin it!) Must have looked fucking awesome though

On the other hand I have dunlop D220's on the CBR at the moment and they are treacherous in the wet, back is nearly dead, front is about mid life. I will replace both this month I reckon.

Just can't decide whether to risk £120 on some Maxxis sports touring tyres or to go all out and pay £200+ for a set of BT023's

bear in mind with qualis you have OEM spec which the japs like to stick on their bikes out the factory... in a similar fashion to bridgestone with their OEM fit BT015 - the oem qualis are shocking and must not be compared to retail qualis. even the tread patterns are different!

Qualifiers on the Bandit were definitely retail jobbies and not OEM ones, the bike had over 7,000 miles on it and the tyres looked good/new when I got the bike.
