Errr. A bit vague there. For what sort of bike?
small honda 4-stroke (cb, cg, cub 90 etc.) tenner from the breakers.
BMW 1150GS probably well into three figures. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Wouldn't getting a side stand be a better idea? Not that I know much about it but it's the first thing that springs to mind. Or is there a particular need for that bike to have a centre stand?
Centre stands (in my opinion) should all be cut off, melted and made into frying pans |

Centre Stands are invaluable when servicing (adjusting chains, oil changes etc) which is why many bikes have them. They are also better for parking on soft ground. If you need to have the bike level for some reason and it doesn't have a centre stand, your going to need a few friends and / or lots of blocks of wood /hoists to be able to get the bike in the position to do such work (unless you have a paddock stand) . I'd agree with what StinkyWheely says with regard to prices . ____________________ My bike: 1988 Kawasaki KH100 Status: Polluting Devon with two stroke smog and noise pollution!

Yessss! I'm not alone in my centre stand weakness!! I despise the things. I didn't manage it on my CBT and had to have a bike with a side stand. I can't do it on my bike either, so when I need to lube the chain I have to make sure Col is with me to put that horrible centre stand down. |

Ok, sorry I'm in an anti centre-stand mood and seem to be taking the point of this post to lower levels.
I'll be quiet now. |

They are great! don't bad mouth centre stands!
Actualy Karen I have exactly the same bike as you, when I first got it I couldn't get it on the stand, but now it is easy. Put the sidestand down and stand to the left of the bike, pull the left handle bar in so it is at full lock, hold the pilion grab rail with your right hand. Push the stand down on the bit that sticks out with your right foot now sort of lean to the right then heave with your left arm, and shift all of your weight to the right. I am only small, weigh about 9 stone so it isn't easy, but If I can do it you must be able to |

I like having both stands, I would never own a bike without both!
And yeah there is a nack to them, .
Oh and the Goldwing and certain BMW bikes have motorised ones though there not that common place!
Back on the topic, most breakers should have them for about £10 or you could pat silly manufacturers prices and pay about £80 . |

Mine was very useful. But it had to go when I downgeared the bike cos it aquired a nice little chain-shaped groove along it. |

Thanks for the advice and also the raging debate on centre stand or not centre stand
But i think its more to do with he needs the centre stand to kick start it if the electric fails which he's a bit nervous on.
p.s. its a scooter to but im trying to talk him into getting a bike. ____________________ ****NORTHERN IRELAND NEWSFLASH!!**** According to a recent survey, 94% of loyalists said the best sex they ever had was in the shower; the other 6% haven't been to jail yet.*** |

Fancy that talking of centre-stands!!!
I've just been down playing with my new toy in the garage and after a few different technique's I managed to get it onto the centre stand. And I did it three times in a row just to make sure! (not that I'm bragging of course )
It was really useful having it on the centre stand to check the oil, water coolant, etc, etc.
I LOVE MY NEW TOY!!!!!
I know this is off-topic, but is it my fault I am still sooooo excited!! ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10
