why do bikes come without rear huggers

why dont bikes come with rear huggers as standard? surely it would make sense and wouldnt cost a huge amount more?

Probably too many people that buy bikes and don't ride them if it's wet and bikes often look better without them.

But it would make a lot more sense if they did come with every bike as standard.

Because they look pig ugly . Well some do. Although plenty of bikes do have them or something similar.

However for sports bikes I suspect it might be because it adds a tiny bit of weight that a large part of the target market rarely goes out in the rain to want one.

Be more inclined to want a switched live feed that things can easily be wired into without chopping wiring.

Cost, it's another part to stock.

Plus ease of manufacture / assembly, it's quicker to make without.

Plus it does reduce the weight, all important in the bike reviews that the power ranger brigade drool over.

Most new sports bikes do come with a small hugger of some sort though!

There not very big huggers, but a hugger none the less!

Because the cheaper they can make 'em, the more profit they make, simple. Don't be under the illusion that the manufacturer gives a toss after the bike's left the showroom.

Because it's all part of the after sales sell-up. Clearly the less extra's they give you, the more you are going to buy. It's how manufacturers make an extra bit of cash on you.

Or possibly for the same reason they don't come fitted with socket head cap screws on the engine cases, braided steel brake lines, stainless header pipes, sintered brake pads and more than one coat of paint on the swingarm.

yeah, might suit weekend warriors i suppose. i never really thought they made much difference to the look personally, i think some even look a bit better, as long as theyre close to the tyre, that ninja one up there looks pretty rubbish ^

and id much rather look slightly less cool than even attempt to clean that whole underneath section and my rear shock tbh. too many posers!

On my 05 Ninja I found that without a hugger stones were being flung into the shock, creating lots of stone chips.
