I've recently upgraded my TV to a sony 32inch 1080p jobbie. Now i'm thinking about adding a bluray player to it.
Will I notice a big improvement over my high end pioneer dvd player?

I'm kinda tempted with a one box solution, something like a sony E370 to help make up for the poor sound from the telly compared with my old sony CRT.

Having never seen a bluray play I have no idea if its worth the expense or if I should I just spend the 400quid on some new shoes for the wife?

Presuming you're buying blu-rays and not sitting a long way away, I would Smile.
Still expensive to buy the discs however.

Welcome, also, to borrow my PS3, which is supposed to be a half-decent bluray player.

We rent DVD's atm and blurays cost the same to rent.

And we arn't too far away from the TV, only got a small iving room! Similar to the width of your living room G, but set up sideways.

Thanks Furbar, but your not really getting the point, I'm after a one box cinema system so would take over all sound from my TV. And seams very daft to swap a top of the line DVD player with a cheapo blueray player!

I can actually give you the same film on Bluray and on DVD so you can do a true comparison.

Ordinary DVD players are as cheap as chips, does the quality of the picture justify buying a Blu-ray player 'coz they ain't cheap or are we just being bullshitted to prise us away from our dosh ?. Confused

Starting at £60 or so, not massively expensive.
I still don't like the price of Blu Ray's (have bought one so far, despite having a PS3 that can play them for three years), but then I may download err, freely available, films, some of which can be in high def Smile.

I have a Blu-ray player and can tell the difference (when I have my glasses on.) It's just a cleaner and crisper image. The bigger the TV the more you'll notice it.

I don't buy any Blu-rays though because I have a Lovefilm account and just add the blu-ray versions of the films instead of the DVD.

I'd suggest downloading HD movies instead and then watch them on the HD tv, it's rare I'd watch a movie more than once.

You can get compact media players that play div x files off memory cards or usb drives.

I have loads of bluray films that I have on my pc (xbmc) to a projector. The picture quality is obviously far beyond standard dvd. I wouldn't buy a cheap bluray player however as the picture quality can be very poor. With cheap players come cheap components and budget processors which lead to grainy and flat picture quality. Cheap all in one systems (i'm assuming you mean sound as well) won't give you true HD/ DTS master sound but obviously still get 5.1, for what its worth I still use 2 channel stereo and find it to be more enjoyable.

I can't recommend anything to what you're requiring but a small HTPC may be better than buying a bluray player but you'd still need to sort out your sound if you wanted.

Bottom line is go bluray but dont but a cheap player - as mentioned the PS3's are supposed to be fairly good.
