Hi All

I have just bought my first flat and am confused about energy things, gas and electricity in particular.

I have gone onto various energy supplier websites to get a quote thing to try and get the best prices etc.
But all of them ask what my current supplier is and how much energy I use, what meter I have and all sorts of other crap.

But this is my first house, I have no idea what meter we have, or how much energy is used (we haven't moved in yet)

So, how am I supposed to get quotes etc if I can't answer apparently compulsory questions?

Any advice would help!

Thanks,
Squishio

It's not like insurance, you won't save much going with different suppliers. You're probably best off either sticking with whoever is currently supplying the house for the first set of bills and then going onto Uswitch to see if there's a saving or going with a provider of your choice.

Personally I find British Gas are generally lowish on price and don't give me much agro, you'll get a discount if you take gas and electric with the same company and a further discount for direct debit, I only do the former, direct debit is a recipe for getting fleeced and allowing them to earn interest on your money.

Ask the current owner/solictor what sort of meter is fitted...

Other than that wait till you move in. Login into quidco or such cashback site.
Sign up to whoever is giving the most cash back. Just check its not a long contract. Then see how your bills go and around 12 months later do it all again. If you work it right you can get about 25% of your usage back Thumbs Up
