VFR 800 Speedo

Today whilst riding along a dangly bit from my trousers got caught in the front part of my chain and dragged my leg against the bike. I pulled over and ripped my trousers out but I couldn't seem to find the bit that remained inside (I presume there was still a bit in there). After riding along a bit further I noticed that my speedo is now reading 0 perminantly. Anybody got any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how to fix it?

You'll need to take the sprocket cover off and retrieve the piece of trousers. Not sure if the VFR has a sensor or a "widget" type speedo drive but which ever it is must have got blocked off or caught up by the material.

Ah, the eBay pop-ups below inform me the 800 has a sensor, it's either got blocked by the material, wires bust, or forced out of the way. Either way, it's cover off.

You need to be more careful getting your dangly bits near the chain Shocked

It's a speedo. It's not the end of the world. I waited about a month before I finally got round to fixing my speedo cable. Laughing

Haha yep, I certainly did think about how bad it could potentially have been. Lucky it was an over pair of trousers coz the only way I could get it out was to hop off the bike whilst still attached, take off my shoes and remove the offending pair. Could have been a bit embarrasing if I was standing there in my pants Shocked

I'd get it looked at as soon as poss. If the material forces itself between the shaft and the sprocket, it could damage the seal and/or shaft. I had a piece of material get caught in the stern gland, (drive shaft seal), on my boat once and it ripped the motor from its mountings.
