 |

im not new to biking but im new to gears, ive been riding offroad motorbikes since i was 5 , but i passed my CBT last year and got a speedfight 50cc , now im 17 i would like something bigger , and the bike i would like has gears Honda CBF 125 ,
i understand the concept of gears but just a few questions ..
= i heard that when you stop u have to hold the clutch in to stop it going forward etc.. is this true , carnt i just hold in the brake ?
= when pulling up behind a car or at traffic lights do i have to put it in neutral or can i leave this in 1st gear ?
= how hard is it to find Neutral gear as it is in between 1st and 2nd gear
i know i seem like a little kid as i dont know much about gears but im just really curious about learning the gears , because i love biking and chose to get a 125cc over a car |

Nope but put it in neutral but 1st gear clutch in is good for quickly getting away. You don't have to hold it all the way in you can hold it just below the bite whereby the bike starts to move forward. You see the engine is connnected to the wheels the engine turn the wheels turn. When the wheels stop turning you need to disconnect the wheels from the engine. Else the bike moves forward or you stop the engine either or.
When setting off you give it some gas, then let the clutch out slowly reconnecting the engine with the gearbox, too fast and not enough gas and the resistance stalls the engine. Too slow and you accelerate slowly. You'll soon learn the bite zone by muscle memory and can feel it as the engine slows down as you release the clutch.

Your choice, 1st gear clutch in is good for quick getaways. neutral is good for traffic light sequences that are long or for bikes with heavy clutches.

Depends on the bike and the condition of the bike, my CBR its easy to find ditto on the NTV and Africa twin. Even though the light did not work. However on my XT600E it was hard to find, due to the gear box coming off a tractor, same with the TDm800 I tried once. Which is why people hold the clutch in and go into first. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. 1) Clutch in when you stop, because otherwise the engine will stall, pull it all the way in and have the brake on
2) Can leave it in neutral or first gear, if in first leave the clutch pulled in
3) At first it can be a tricky bugger and i've found the finding of neutral different on other bikes to my own, but soon you'll know it off by heart ____________________ C.B.T - Expired

neutral is half a click in between 1st and 2nd, i've just started riding a geared bike, and if anything, neutral is dead easy to find.
sometimes when changing up from 1st to 2nd i end up putting it in neutral and start revving the tits off it before realising.
as for the clutch, you do need to hold it in when your stopped or you can put it into neutral, whichever you prefer. ____________________ yer ma's got a skinhead and collects footy stickers |

Basically when a gear is selected the bike has to be moving or the clutch has to pulled in / at biting point.
When you start learning, you'll get it quick as the bike will just stall meaning it had no power to turn the gears.
I've currently got a CBF 125 and the gears are easy... but I have missed 2nd sometimes by not moving my foot all the way up ____________________ CBT: 04/2010 -> Theory: 09/2010 -> MOD1 & 2: 10/2010 (That's right baby, both on same day)
