Sorry, this is a bit of a heavy post, but I am very interested in what you guys think..........?
https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/3934277.stm
So do we ban these sort of games? Or would that lead to films being ban as well?
Do these sort of things really influence people, or are they already on the verge of doing something really stupid and the game or film is just a trigger waiting to be pulled?
If this young lad had never played Manhunt, would he have remained a model citizen? ____________________ Mr Pants! (Alex or Al)

Surely having a tighter control over what you allow your children to play with is the answer.
Too many kids these days know too much for their age.
OK, in this case, the guy was 17, but there are loads of young kids out there watching videos they shouldn't be and playing games that they shouldn't be.
Better parental control has to be the answer, surely! ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

I say no to ban. there should be tighter restrictions in place but these should not limit what films and games can display - but they should forwarn people buying this material just what content it contains.
We all love gore, but that's probably because it's kind of against the rules when you're little and it makes you feel better as the film/game's rated 18. Or it's just funny when you see splats and bits flying around.

The kid should have known right from wrong way before he started playing with the computer game. Can't believe a computer game can be blamed for murder!
The parents should be taking a long hard look at themselves if you ask me. Where are his morals that he should have been taught long ago? ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

I think its another case of parents wanting something to blae other than themselves for what has happened.
(And before everyone starts havinga go at me, I know not all parents fall into this category, just some! )
The game in question was clearly marked as 18 classification. He shouldn't have been able to buy a copy. But the problem is that parents think that, "Well, its only a game, it won't hurt."
I don't actually believe that the games themselves promote violence anyway, the people doing it must have a screw loose in the first place to be influenced by a game. It's the divide between reality and games in people's heads that needs looking at. That's a case for doctors, not the games developers. ____________________ Colin McRae MBE 1968 - 2007 RIP

They are just scape goats. ALtho if you recall the power rangers.... with the amount of kids kicking each other in the guts etc at school playtimes.
I think some of the racing games would be a better use of curbing, such as midnight club, GTA3 etc, which convey high speed racing through busy traffic as cool. Maybe therein lies the problem.
However as for violence, i think we are a naturally atavistic and destructive society, it is natural for violence to happen, it is just the ways violence occurs and the gravity of it. Simple beatings in back alleys have been replaced with far more grim copycat styled stuff, such as from american fantasy X or whatever it is called, someone around our way copied the making them put them bite the curb then kicking them in the head. That is grim, and spawned straight from someone watching the film and in the next possible situation trying it out. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

I say no to banning. I know it's a bit of a cliche to go on about freedom of speech but the fact is it's important. This is just one case of a HIGHLY suggestable kid who took a game a bit too literally. But that should not mean you ban it. This kid was obviously unstable as it is (he got addictted to the game), maybe people should be forced to see a psychiatrist before they can get such games and if they pass and are of sound mind then they get a lil card saying they can buy the games
But seriously i think outright banning is going too far, why should we be restricted to what we see? If we think we can cope with the violence then we should be allowed to buy such games or films. The age limit should be inforced more strictly. But also the parents should watch over their kids. I know mine wouldn't allow me to get addicted to such games. The persons parents must take some of the blame for not noticing their son's homicidal tendancies. ____________________ Freedom is never having to say you're sorry |

I've played games since I've had a computer, and I haven't felt the urge of going out there and reinacting a part of them. There was something very wrong with this guy before he even played this game. ____________________ Bikes owned: Aprilia RS 125 GP1 2003 (Now sold), Suzuki GSX-r600 1997 (streetfightered), https://www.bikepics.com/members/sychosis/
