so tonight on my ride home from the cinema with friends, i get flashed by a speed camera outside a night-club.

needless to say i'm furious about the situation as i've only been riding for 1 week, got half the points my license allows and i've been told the fine is going to be £60 and the points will last 2 years.

this means i'm going to have to be completely spotless for two hole years.

£60 is also more than what i earn in a week. (17, have a small part-time job)

this entire situation sucks camel dicks.

Speeding points stay on your license for four years.

Was it a big yellow gatso that got you?

I hate to sound like a bit of a prick, but if you've only been riding for a week, what the hell are you doing speeding!?

Take it as a warning shot and remember that you don't just lose points for speeding. Take a look at the link below carefully and make sure you don't commit any of these while your at it.

https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/EndorsementsAndDisqualifications/DG_10022425

Incidentally, how quickly were you going? If it was a lot over the limit you may get slapped with 6 points and lose your license immediately.

Also, doesn't look particularly well hidden by those trees.

i'm certain that it couldn't have been any more than 35 at the absolute most.

i remember seeing a programme a while back on shit like speeding and going through reds and that sort of stuff, they said it's not official that after a 2 week period that you've gotten away with it, but you can safely assume so.

It's maximum 2 weeks from date of offence to the date of ISSUE of the penalty IIRC.

Unless they can show they got it to you as quickly as is reasonably possible.

Average cameras at Cat & Fiddle I believe, still aren't operating.

in some cases if your just over the speed limit you can be offered a speed awareness course. if u attend you don't get the points and only pay the fine

technically you dont pay the fine you pay for the course (which is often about £15 more expensive) but yeh.. you might get away with doing the course instead of points.

its a VERY worthwhile thing to do if offered.

on the flip side, you may find you wont get anything through at all.. only about 10% of speed cameras are actually active at any one time and a load have been turned off recently so thats probably even less.

fingers crossed eh, just be more careful next time. i really dont know how anyone who's actually looking where they're going can get caught by a fixed camera. Question
