Hi people

I've just noticed something stuck in my rear tyre.
Should I try to remove it or leave it in there?

I'd ride it to a tyre place via slow roads and get them to plug it if possible or replace if not.

Either a slow ride to a garage (or a mobile service if you're feeling flush)..... or a plug kit if you know someone with the skill and reliability to do it for you ??

Without the risk of removing it, there's obviously no easy way of knowing how deep that might be

is it a nail? or a very fine piece of road grit? Its might be possible to remove and may not result in a puncture.

As have said depends how deep it is

It's a nail or a bit of metal or something. The head gets ground off on the road very quickly just leaving the shaft behind. Like others have said, ride slowly to a tire place, there they will pull it out and stick a plug in it. The plug is a mushroom shaped bit of rubber that they push in with a tube. As the head will be on the inside it won't come out. You can buy a kit and do it yourself if you're feeling brave / stingy Razz

Have ridden 1000's of miles with similar things in my tyres, that's your risk to take though.

+1. Also, the road are awful at the moment. There is crap everywhere!

Do you have confidence in removing the rear wheel?

If so, then try and get whatever it is out. If it punctures the tyre, take the wheel off and get it repaired at your local garage. I can't see them having a problem repairing that. Its right in the middle of the tyre!

Thanks guys

I think I may pull it out and if it deflates I'll whip the wheel off and get it plugged.

The chicken strips are a bit embarrassing but the roads have been awful lately and I got high sided 3 weeks after buying the bike so my confidence isn't what it used to be!

May have to spin up the rear tyre on the patio Laughing

I had something that looked very similar in a bike I was looking after last year. Took it (carefully) to a tyre place in Reading and he just pulled it out and sent me on my way.

Looks like it's gone in sideways so there's a fair chance it won't have gone right through.

It looks like a metal shard rather than a nail that's gone right through.
I'd take it out at home and see what happens rather than get in a pickle 20 miles from home at midnight.
