Well folks, thanks to all who gave me advice, although as you can see most of it was ignored lol.

I got most of the stuff for this trailer for free so made the best of what I had, and treated it as a trial/prototype trailer. There will be more to come in future.

I don't really have much to say about it, have only given it a short test run to make sure turning circle/ground clearance are ok and it's all good.

Hope you like, it's a bit heavy I think.....But as I said this is more a prototype than anything. Oh and it's not attached to the bike as it takes 2 people and my dads away lol.

It seems possible if you were a good enough rider, the trailer will lean over more than my chicken strips on the bike so I probably wouldn't be able to myself but I'm sure someone would give it a go lol.

Slightly more than a laptop lol.

Seriously though it should be a god send for rallies, as with the GF on the back it takes me 2 trips.

With the trailer it should mean one trip + more awkwardly shaped/sized things should be no hassle.

I thought that, surely you may as well have more space to carry stuff if you go to all that trouble?
You could put a sort of rack on top to lash larger items on mind.

Yea I'm hoping to be able to put my tent/chairs etc on top of it.

The frame was already built for the box for a different purpose, so that's what I had to work with.

I've been thinking that a flat bed frame trailer with a car roof box on it would be a pretty good job.

That's cool, now you need to just put a car seat on it and have a train.

But, now wheelie-ing is easier Cool

Looks like a good bit of kit mate,

I have a couple of questions though.

Vertical movement.
Does it bounce around much?

Horizontal movement.
Is there any?
With 1 mount point to the bike i can see there being the problem of it fish-tailing. But i see you have 2 mount points, does that stop the issue?

Also, do you not have the worry that cagers cant see bikes and riders at eye level, let alone a trailer at that height?

Cheers

Nice, ok so your pivot doesnt have any vertical movement (lol to who ever said wheelieing will be easier) and its on the swing arm so it will be more unsprung weight but you followed the main rule, wheel right at the back.

My latest beer keg trailer has a wheel at the back and tows like a beauty all the way to 95 unloaded, happily did 80 2 up fully loaded as well (on a private road of course officer)

Cheers
John

The flag is telescopic so I can raise it up to eye level, hopefully giving more visibility. Also it's lit up like a Christmas tree. I'm going to see if I have enough power to run under trailer leds as well, and may get a number plate made saying trailer on tow or something like that to stick on the back somewhere.

As for handling, so far only had it up to 30 so can't really comment, it's a bit scary knowing something could go wrong so I'm taking it handy getting to grips with it. It wont be needed until next spring anyway so I have loads of time to get used to it and report back.

I know you said not to but it was the easiest option due to the hollow axle, but if it proves to be a nightmare I should be able to make another mount for the pillion pegs and use that instead. Just requires a bit more measuring lol.

Then it would fall over at a stand still lol

No it wont, a hitch would make it fall over unless its got 2 wheels, a UJ has no rotational play in it (unless your bearings are fucked, but thats a different seat pinching story all together)

Been using a UJ on all my trailers fine, gives good left to right movement aswell as up and down for assisting the suspension, also by filling it with heavier grease you can get a sort of damper effect going on at motorway speeds.

I get the feeling yours is going to weave like a bastard when it gets up to speed with that hitch setup unless its loaded perfectly evenly.

I'll get some pictures of mine on sunday, its going for a play then.

Cheers

Not so sure about the weaving. 2 fixed points should stop that.

But cornering brings up another question, i know the trailer will lean, but it will also slide round the corner if you catch my drift.

2 fixed points and it will slide, one good joint and it'l follow and turn fine.

Trying to think, under cornering will it help by providing more grip, or have the opposite effect and throw the bike off?

Either way, very cool Very Happy
