Honda 125

Hi guys,
Im currently riding a yamaha jog 50cc scooter and im 17 in a few weeks, my mate has just bought a ybr and said he would sell me his 125 for £300 its a 2001 honda @125 i know its a quick bike as ive had a go in a car park and managed 70 is this a good idea or should i stay with a 50 for a little longer ive only been riding for a few months

my main question is £250-£300 too much for a 125 scooter and am i too inexperianced to upgrade.

A 125 is inherently safer than a 50, since it can keep up with traffic better. The only source of danger is the rider. Since you're asking the question, that's a good sign that you're safety minded.

The price entirely depends on the bike's condition. If it's low mileage with a service history, a long MOT and no crash damage, rust or mechanical problems, that's a decent price - you won't get any running bike for much less than that. If there's anything at all wrong with it, then walk away unless you're absolutely sure how to fix it, and how much it will cost you. If in doubt, get a 2nd opinion from a cynical mate.

Speaks volumes that your mate is selling his 125 scooter and getting a 125 geared bike......unless of course he is planning to do his bike test on it?

Before you commit to anything go get a taster bike lesson as you'll likely find you prefer a proper bike

Then I think you've answered your own question. Based on the available information - genuine reason for sale, low mileage - it's a good buy. It really depends on whether you want a scooter or a geared bike.
