Does anyone think that the taxation for bikes should be lowered?

Personally, I think that a 1500kg car WILL wear the road out quicker than a 200kg bike. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks that bike taxation is a shambles?

Think about it, a 160kg, 125cc bike may do around 3000miles/year. A brand new 1500kg Seat Leon Ecotech, or whatever they like to call it, may do around 5000 in the same year. Now then the 125cc bike pays £15 a year road tax whilst the Seat Leon pays nothing! Surely this should make them not permitted to use OUR roads. Road tax...what a load of shite! It used to be to 'fund' the roads. Now it's just a tax based on how much our vehicles polute the environment.

Anyone agree?

'road tax' = Vehicle Excise Duty.

It's never been earmarked to fund the roads.

You've been allowed by your betters the privilege of being the registered keeper (not the owner), and user of a two wheeled motor vehicle. You are fortunate that they dont milk you for all your money to keep you off the road and crammed on the bus with all the other cattle, where you truly belong.
Now be a well behaved slave and cough up whatever measily pittance they ask for, before they take that privilege away.

Its already cheaper than the majority of cars on the roads. I pay £70 a year for my 750, Will pay the same when I pick my thousand up next week and for that I get the fun factor that I would have to be driving a supercar to get the same kind of acceleration and top speed. If you want to know how much the tax is on a supercar is these days.... Then you cant afford one!

So with that in mind I'll continue to be fucked for £70 a year and be thankful that its not a shitload more

Very true. But I was just trying to make a point about in some cases, bikes are more to tax. But obviously, just to go to your supercar quote, the argument will always remain between sportsbike riders and supercar drivers, as to which is best. Supercars are for posh toffs who can't handle bikes Wink

I don't know how this has become some sort of urban myth, because it's clearly bollocks.

The state do not own the vehicle. You do.

The state own the registration mark, without which you're not permitted to use it on the road, but may quite cheerfully do what you like with it on private land.

The ability for the state to seize your vehicle is not because they own it, but rather because statute permits them to do so. Even once seized, it remains yours until such time as you sign it over or refuse to pay release or storage fees.

More rarely, it may be subject to confiscation proceedings. These are not automatic, and has no bearing on the fact that you physically own the vehicle, regardless of the registration.

Whether the laws permitting seizure are fair is another matter entirely.

Bloody stupid question. Neutral
I had some prat ask a simular question while stood at my front door, only this time it was about my utility bills. Fucked him off for trying to be so bloody patronising. ( and he would have been cheaper in the long run).

It's you that's talking fucking bollocks.

We don't own ANYTHING, we just have temporary possession until some fucker takes it off us. Otherwise, we'd be allowed to do anything to stop scrotes having away with it.

The ecilop don't give a rat's arse because as long as the registered mug is paying the taxes and fines, they're quite happy to not retrieve your hard-worked-for goods because you don't own it de jure anyway.
