You won't get banned for playing it early as long as it's a legit copy. I've played tons of games before their release date without any problems.

The only people that get banned are the ones who have downloaded it illegally.

If it's a proper retail copy you'll be fine playing it online, quite a few of my friends are online at the moment playing the multiplayer.

RE: the treyarch, infinity ward comments, it just seems to go around in a vicious circle e.g.

Infinity ward releases a game.. it's the best thing since sliced bread, 11 months later it's now rubbish and the treyarch game is now the best thing since sliced bread.. fast forward another 11 months it's rubbish again and the new IW title is the best thing since sliced bread.

Infinity Ward & Treyarch are the devlopers, the guys who actually make the game.

It goes IW --> Treyarch --> IW --> Treyarch

Although Sledgehammer Games have been hired to work on a new Call of Duty game.

Its poissible Sledgehammer are working on MW3, and IW are wokring on something new but still COD related, some say a subscription based MMOFPS.

Nothing wrong with playing legitamate games online. The person who leaked the game to you has done wrong not you, so you wont be punished for playing a legit copy.
