When I ordered my bike they said 'Oh, it will be about 3 or 4 weeks'. I thought this would be fine, give me chance to get ready and purchase all the gear. Then after a month of waiting I started calling to find out where it was. 8 weeks later and they havn't given me a date of delivery so I am now fed up.
Then tonight my brother sent me a text, one of his colleagues is selling the bike I have ordered, second hand. What should I do? The second hand one was registered in March '04 and is £400 cheaper then the new one.

I don't know what sort of bike we're talking about, but to be honest I don't see why anyone buys a bike new. You're always going to lose money from the price you paid for it. But choose wisely buying second hand and you won't lose half as much!

my vote is with the 2nd hand one Smile

I will not buy another new bike.

I blew the engine on my MZ within the warranty period (the warranty was the main reason for buying new). They have had it for FIVE weeks now, right in the middle of the rally season. When I look at the money I have spent on getting it garaged serviced (I am perfectly capable of doing this myself for 1/4 of the price (6X services, it adds up), and I would know it had been done properly!), I could have got a reconditioned engine and fitted it for the same cost and been back on the road within a couple of days.

I think that it's generally not worth buying a new bike unless the price is stupidly low (like new SV 650's are now). Also I don't intend to buy any old bikes as they always need something fixing and are more prone to mechanical failures.

Newish second hand bikes are they way to go. Very Happy

If you really have your heart set on the CBR knock him down another £100 and have it.

It's not worth buying a new 125 you'll soon get bored of it and want something else. I know it's all exciting and you don't think you will, but believe me you will.

Second-hand, although not for only £400 less. You really want a bigger reduction that.
