What to wear on a CBT

Not just my CBT but all round riding really.
When I decided to get a bike I thought safety to be the most important thing so wanted to buy the best gear I could. So I got a pair of Frank Thomas boots and a 1 piece Frank Thomas extreeme race leathers. As you probably know, I am only getting a CBR125 and I think the 1 piece will look stupid. So I am probably just going to wear a normal jacket over the top so it looks more like leather trousers then a race suit.

What do you all think?

Basically the best you can, and from what you've said there that's spot on no problems. Thumbs Up

It may only be a 125, but the tarmac will still hurt at 70-80mph if you fall off a 125 just as much as it would if it was a litre bike, so it's your skin how much do you value it is the question to ask yourself.

You'll probably get quite hot wearing that, so what I'd do, and suggest, would be to take it with you, but when you're doing the work in the car park to not use it, use your boots, jeans, and a good jacket (well and your helmet and gloves Laughing

) and get changed into your leathers when you're going out for the road riding bit as you will be doing higher speeds then you do in the car park, and it is very hot at the moment and you'll boil standing around in leathers for half the day in the car park.

Well, if he can get hold of good kit it makes sense to use it, as it's doing you no benefit sitting back at home doing nothing, as it'll still be there if you have to limp home without skin on some of your body. Shocked

Why would that look stupid? The people who think it looks stupid are those who don't quite know the fact the ground is hard, and those who don't value their skin.

It's your skin not mine or anyone elses, so protect it if you want to, or don't if you don't want to, but the ground does hurt, and it'll hurt just as much coming of a CBR125 as it will coming off a ZX10R. So if you do come off, don't come and say we didn't say that the ground is hard and it hurts. Laughing

The laws of physics still apply no matter who you are and what bike you're on, so give yourself the best chance you can would be the best thing to do. Thumbs Up

Hey, I would have KILLED to be wearing leathers like that when I did my CBT on a cold January Sunday.

As I have mentioned before, I did mine in a pair of combat trousers, Welly boots, a wax jacket and wooly gloves. I topped the ensemble off with a bright orange Bell helmet dating back to the 1970s with a press-stud visor. I was on a Tomos moped too, but I was on the road Very Happy

On my CBT in December I wore my Textile Jacket, helmet and denimns with my cat boots and I was freezing!!! <brrrrrr> Wish I had leathers then!! However, I bet I wasn't as cold as a couple of wee twats that were doing their CBT on the same day, they had on jogging bottoms, trainers and a bloody hooded top!!!!! Shocked

Obviously they didn't value their skin or their ankles!!

Now, I only have a wee 125, but I went out yesterday and bought new leathers, a two piece Hein Gericke suit. They're gorgeous!!! Very girly looking too! And also a nice pair of biker boots, again, very girly, but very sturdy, they've got shin-reinforcements and everything which is great, 'cause I bruise really easy!

When I get a photo I will post it here.

When I went for a spin on my bike last night to see how they felt, I did think people might be saying to themselves, what's she wearing that suit for when she's only got a 125, but then I thought, f*ck it!! If I do (and fingers crossed I don't) come off my bike, at least then I know, I'll have more chance of less injuries.

It's black and cream, quite plain, but very girly, and very sexy!!! It only has one of the the flat back protectors, but that suits me fine, 'cause it has protection!

It was weird riding with them on at first and I felt a bit restricted 'cause the leather's got to stretch a bit, but this morning coming to work I felt absolutely fine!!

So go for it rsooty, wear your suit and be proud for being sensible!!!

Leathers with a correct fit.

They saved my ass twice.
Once with a 70mph slide.

Then once again when i hit a car head on with an impact of around 70mph

Both times i have only come of with bruising.... An more importantly all my skin...

HI....

When I did my CBT people wore lots of different things.....
it usually went....

scooters - jeans/trousers, bike jacket, trainers/shoes, gloves, helmet;
125 - jeans/bike trousers, bike jacket, shoes/bike boots, gloves, helmet.

I, personally would not wear the leathers for the day.
Reasons...
if it is warm and 'muggy' (as it is these days) you will SWEAT! You do a LOT of very slow playground practice....plus slow riding, etc.....

you also do a lot of classroom stuff, talking etc....

On my CBT I wore proper bike trousers, bike jacket (no lining)..with a vest top underneath, bike boots, etc...

If you have a bike jacket I would wear that with jeans.
You COULD change into your leathers at the end of the day when you do the final road-ride.....and then you can ride on home hopefully if you pass! Thumbs Up

For your CBT wear what you will wear when you pass your test, you're going to ride a bike so wear bike gear. Good leathers and boots, gloves and helmet, i always take a rider more seriously if they are wearing the right gear. Also you will ride more confidently if you feel protected. You would be surprised how many of my students turn up in trainers track suit bottoms and light tops! Shocked

though most people probably have as much protection in joggers and a t-shirt.

personally i wore jeans - bike jacket - bike gloves - helmet and 'sturdy' shoes.

its not a fashion parade granted but no one wants to look like a dick.

I;ve got my CBT coming up soon as well (next Sunday woohoo! Laughing

). Go with the 1 piece if you feel comfortable in it. B*llocks to anyone who laughs at you as they're twats. Myself I'd probably will hold off until after my CBT to get a decent pair of leathers, helmet etc as there's always the risk that you might hate it and then you've spent all that money on gear. Still, for the day I'll probably wear jeans, light jumper and a leather coat.

) But I think it actually improves the look of the bike!! he also has a cbr125r, but the red and black one!(can get his knee down, which is impressive with them tyres!

IMO, you get off the bikes, you can change your clothes! whilst on the bike, where as much protection as you can! People may laugh when on their bigger bikes with little protection, but you may laugh when you see someone with no skin!!(Prob looks as silly as them furless cats) Mr. Green
