GS500 bogging down when pulling off

Yo,

So recently done a few things on my GS500 including cleaning the carbs, refurbing carb o-rings, new float valves etc but now after putting it all together when riding low down (1k/2k/3k) and specifically pulling off it reals really boggy until you give it some revs.

If you keep the revs up and pull off it goes fine it's just the real low down 2/3k it's having trouble at.

Feels like it floods and small back fires occasionally at this rpm.

Possibly pilot issues? Or possible float height issues? Or something else?

I had a similar problem on mine and it turned out to be the pilot jet in one of the carbs was blocked.

Might also be a dodgy spark or the valve gaps.

Possible idle mixture incorrect? Therefore the really low end mixture is wrong. You have had the carbs apart so imagine its a case you might have re-adjusted them incorrectly.

It def carb issue cos you have been at them, check all the settings and make sure the carbs are also in sync

Did you mess about with the float heights while you were in there?

Not conciously but who knows if I bent the tang slightly when installing new float valves and making sure they seated correctly.

float heights, doesnt seem to affect the gs a hell of a lot,
i would be looking at the pilots as stated above, and the needle clip position,
drop the clip a notch and go for a ride, if its worse or the same try lift a notch above standard,
also make sure you have no air leaks,
wd40 to the carb boots while running, if the revs change you have a leak,
the gs carbs are a cunt to get on and off, so it might be that you havn't quite got them in place correctly

Actually I agree, the airbox, hose routing and such all crammed in such a small space it's a REAL pita. My zxr is refreshing spacious to work on in comparison.

Oh and no airleaks, jet needle in on clip pos 3 from the top as per haynes and was before said issues (before carb clean also) occourred so cant imagine it'd be that.

I reckon float, pilots or possible a/f screws.???

An update on this, finally got round to stripping it down to carbs again to have a look.

Pilots not blocked again, all good on that front.
One float heigh way off (12mm instead of the suggested 14.6mm)
Reset both, rechecked both, twice.

Altered needle clip pos to clip pos 2 from the top as opposed to the haynes suggesting 3 from top (so more leaner) I had tried this clip pos before and had good results.

Put her back together went for a cruise and it's all good.
Can grab a fistful from bottom revs in ANY gear and it'll pull cleanly without stumbling or such.

Off idle is equally as refreshing now without having to give it loads of rev + slippage to get away.

WINNER!

Thought I'd better fix it for the ice riding we are to expect any day soon. Max revs with clutch slipping is not helping anyone in this weather.

Interesting side story I remember riding my zxr 7 through last winter to work. She developed a real nasty carb problem (which I probably posted here about) where if you didn't give it 5K or above it would stall. Motorway riding was easy but town riding was a CUNT.

On the way to work one morning the temperature was minus something then the rain hit and instantly froze on the road, I was going round a roundabout trying to tackle this beast slipping the clutch to stay above 5k to avoid a stall, she stalled a couple times and locked the back wheel this was enough to literally lose grip on the front and back.

Twice the bike completely lost traction front and back. Hairiest moment ever and I've had a few. To this day I don't know how she managed to stay upright - I guess it was small ice patches and as soon as she touched non iced tarmac she regained grip again.

Alot of memories of that bike.
