I want to have a website in which the following happens:

(1) People put in their details as providers of certain services.

(2) Other people search thru those data, to achieve a listing of people from (1) who suit their needs, most regularly expected search terms would be location and price.

Is there a fairly simple "widget" which I can use to do this?

If so, what web-hosting company offers such a widget with fairly idiot-proof "make-a-website" facilities.

I am currently registered with 1-2-3 for another project/domain name I have bought, but I have not bought the domain name for this project yet, and no hosting for either (yet).

NB I am rubbish at building websites so using too-technical terms or abbreviations are pointless, cos I'll only have to ask Smile

Just remember that the owner of the website can potentially be held liable for the legality of the service offered, despite only acting as an intermediary for putting the service provider and the customer in touch with one another.

Not absolutely as simple as all that but it's possible. There is case law to support this.

Very true if it's a paid for service but you'll be ok if you provide the matching service for free.

Also if you're taking peoples details you are bound by the data protection act and are required to provide sufficient security, store the data for only the legally allowed time periods etc.

There is be scripts and things out there that do what you want, but setting them up and stuff isn't 'dummies guide' kinda stuff. Also you may think it's simple as what you want it to do is clear and simple to use, but that doesnt neccisarily make it so. E.g the order in which the results are returned could be alphabetical, or it count be based on the best match, in which case you need a way to determine this etc. Also you need admin functionality so that you can admin the lists, remove people, change things etc. You'd also need some security to stop people spamming it up or robots registering.

Yeah I encountered that point already Wink
I'm currently in the process of investigating that one further.

Yeah those are the sort of things I am hoping to learn (by "listening" attentively to other people's much wider range of experience Wink )

Thanks xx Smile
