Been trying since last week to book a days training and test for mod 1 das, same for mod 2 and no school will take my booking, all of them say they will only take bookings for 4 days training and a day for each test, what a rip off I dont need that much training. Looks like I have no choice but to do A2 on my own bike now as I'm not going to pay all that money for training I dont need. £645 was the cheapest, looks like self training and loads of youtube vids followed by 33bhp, not happy, I really wanted to have a proper practise of the mod 1 and a day to identify any bad habits I may have picked up for mod 2. Sad

If you do choose the A2 route, sure go and try the mod1 and with luck you'll pass first, but only with luck and research and questions on the forum.

But with module 2, if indeed you go for A2, is it not worth considering a day or two training for it on your 125? That's what I plan to do.

Did you explain that you've been riding a 125 for a while? Seems daft to turn down your money, especially as they're scuppering any chance of you doing advanced training with them.

A2 is easy enough, just watch the DSA videos on YouTube, cane it in 2nd for the 50kph speed tests, and look out for tricky junctions on the Mod2. Lots of lifesavers, slow in, quick out, take the L plates off and start the clock on your 2 year restriction.

Thanks Roger, thats what I'm thinking, going to book it myself and practise lots on my slow speed control which in all honesty I think is pretty good at the moment. I have already started to ride as if I'm on a test on my way to work to get rid of any bad habits I may of picked up, my biggest fault at the moment I think is not getting closer to the kerb at left turn lights and junctions possibly leaving enough room for a bike to get inside me so I'm trying to get out of that. Earliest mod 1 is 7th Jan but hopefully will get a cancellation.

Thumbs Up

Good plan - it's very satisfying to do it yourself, and works out cheaper than lessons even if you fail a Mod1 or Mod2.

On the positioning, I think that's quite subjective. I hold the middle of the lane to stop any cun^W cager trying to share it, then check over the shoulder before moving off to spot cyclopaths trying to sneak past. It's good practice to do that in a car as well.

Here, this should be able to help you :https://dl.dropbox.com/s/sb77tiat62ljowk/dsa_mc_diagram_manoeuvring_layout.pdf?dl=1

You can even go out and buy a set of markers, I tihnk I found a set of 50 (different colors) for like 8 pounds or less.

You dont have to mark the whole circuit, just do a few sections of it every time you practice and you should have no problem. I used to go out for an hour or less on weekends and just practice a few of these.

You should do the slalom and figure of eight together as that is how it is in your exam.

Also, check both side (lifesavers) every time you move out. This includes when maning your bike on exercise 2.

When doing your emergency stop do a lifesaver to each side as soon as you stop and make sure the instructor sees you doing it. Then do it again when taking off to get out of the compound. As long as you are in the compound he can fail you so don't think because you are done with the Emergency stop you are done Wink

Make sure you don't act like a dick on the way out too, I heard someone failed because they dropped their bike when parking it up after a clean sheet. Rolling Eyes

Thanks guy's, Roger thats exactly what i was doing on left turns with a final shoulder check before starting the turn, but I'm sure I was told or read somewhere that on your test your expected to get as far over to the left to prevent cyclists getting inside you, but I agree with you that leaves space for a car to get right up on your outside within the lane? Is it a case of you can stay centre with plenty of obs or do you need to be right over the same as performing a right turn?

Ta guys

I stayed in the centre and passed, that's all I can say.
