I bought i bike last week docs were signed etc. is the slip i get back as the new owner enough to claim this is legaly mine or do i need to wait for the new V5 and if so how long roughly will it be for it to come through DVLA/Post as looking to sell it to a mate, happy to sell it to him as long as i know i am going to get to docs.

I just do not want to down the line get the police chapping on my door or somthing along those lines and having to tell my mate and having to pay him back

Any suggestions?

You'll get replies here saying being registered keeper on the V5 isnt proof of ownership etc.

But in a nutshell. That little slip is enough to keep you right untill the document arrives. Takes a few weeks normally.

If it doesn't come then use whatever section (its the green bit) and apply for a new one at no charge

Yep.....

Make sure you get a sales doc drawn up and signed and dated..... Might even want to get a 3rd party to sign it as well....

Just incase you mate goes mad and gets flashed or chased. As any bills knocks on doors will be yours Shocked

Got mine for the Virago today.
Took 13 days from the sale of the bike, which was in an evening so closer to 12 days by the time the guy posted the old v5

If i remember correctly, you need a V62 form, and send in the new keepers supplement with it. Had to do this for the girlfriends GS125, as she was adamant that we hadn't received the V5 for it after she'd had it for a while. Couple of months later I was looking for insurance papers and found the original V5, which we had all along Laughing

You can download a V62 form HERE (pdf)
