I could see myself on the road new tiger too, definitely a possible replacement for the TDM. People at the TDM forum are convinced this will be the death of the TDM.

At least the XC has got decent sized wheels; but so far they seem to have built something not quite as good as a 950/990 adventure at best.

@MJ Not compared to it's targets, I reckon it must a be a lighter than the BMW GS/ Yamaha S10 etc. A quick google puts the GS800 at 207kg it also has more power than the GS800 and only a little bit off of the 1200 whilest being alot lighter.

@G why don't you think it would measure up to the KTMs?

I think it looks like a cracking bike based on the specs and seems better than most others out there based on the balance of power and weight, but bearing in mind my offroad experience is limited to one day on one bike, and my soft spot from Triumph I wouldn't rush out and buy one on my say so!

My apologies, got my specs mixed up etc... on paper it does look pretty interesting actually. Technically a little better than the KTM as far as weight goes and similar suspension travel/fuel capacity.

Be interesting to see if it can handle the dirty stuff decently - I liked the idea of the F800GS until I saw all the horror stories about it when actually used off-road.

So I'll change that to say "at best they have built something slightly better than a 950/990 adventure".
Note the 950 adventure weighed a bit less I believe and had a bit more fuel capacity.

It's nice to see a single exhaust on the trumpet - cheaper to replace with a light weight example (saving of about 5kgs on my 690) and less mass altogether.

What I think could have made it very interesting is if they could have got the electronic toys of the new Multistrada in without compromising the weight.

Have you had to clean mud from the 950?
Always thought lots of extra plastic was a bit silly on dirt bike, but wonder if it actually makes it less-bad to clean - the XC looks like it could be a bit of a nightmare.
(I had to clean 6 dirt-encrusted bikes on Sunday, not great fun and they're far from pristine.)

I imagine the Tiger 800 would have better intervals than my S4 which is every 6k Minor/major/minor, I reckon it will be every 8k.

I dont think they really expect it to go offroad. Its just way to make comfy tourer-ish bikes sexy. I'm sure it could be used offroad, but it will be set up for road use.

I think its a good thing for comfy high bar bikes to have a nice image, as race reps designed for the track arent the best road choice for everyone.

I actually think are expecting it to be used for some off-roading. The non-XC version offers similar ergonomics that work much better on road.
The 21" front wheel won't be nearly as suitable for road stuff.

Of course we could say the same for the BMW F800GS which had proper tyre sizes (only the 1200 HP2 models had a 21" front, not the GS ones). However while BMW does have a reputation as a poser's adventure bike, obviously enough people did use it off road to find the problems Smile
