...but I need ideas bearing in mind the following:

1. I won't be able to use official bikes.
2. I won't be able to use real rider names.
3. I won't be able to use real team names.
4. I won't be able to use real circuits.

So taking that little lot out of the equation (all of the above is for copyright/trademark reasons), where does that leave me? Confused

Had thought about an Isle of Man TT type of thing but figure you lot might be the best people to ask.

So basically, if you were going to do this, how would you go about it? What would you want in the game etc? Would you want the controls to be like MotoGP, or easier? or more difficult(?!)?

Thoughts?

what is really missing from the whole game scene is a really good bike racer on real roads with real traffic

bunch of different bikes from 400s to 1300s (like in real life)

twisty country lanes, tractors, schools, artics, bin lorries

and especially POLICE

in short, what we all want to do every time we go out without the danger

Hi

If you are up to it, go for something like the Manx GP. Same course as the TT, but amateurs and a wide range of older racing bikes, probably self preapred so planty of chance for customisation.

All the best

You mean like Burnout, only on bikes?

Interesting...

Mr C has hit the nail on the head.

No worries about copyright as any random street/town will do. Personally I think the MotoGP controls are about right. Customisability is also good along the lines of MotoGP but maybe allowing slightly more advanced than words and shapes etc.

Tractors, pedestrians, twats in Bmws and diesel spills all the things that make riding a bike such fun.

Agree with Mr C there, as there aren't any games which are day to day real life riding for most of the population, Yes being able to play around on MotoGP tracks in a game is fun, but so would just normal roads and normal situations without the real risk and danger. Thumbs Up

Yeah sounds good...

Dont worry about not being able to use the official names There is another way.

Fake, similar, immitation names.

Honda = Honba

Suzuki = Soozuki

Kawasaki = Kiwisaki

Yamaha = Yomaha

Laughing

For the models you can probaby get away with using the same names. That, or just put an R at the end of each.

I’ve always though it would be good to have something along the lanes of a Flight Sim (ie M$ Flight Sim), but for road traffic.
Would be a lot of effort and would have to be better done than I remember flight sim (slow, resource hungry and out of date graphics).
The idea being you get a realistic driving/riding ‘experience’, by allowing new models/maps to be imported the external ‘tweaker’ scene should keep it going. However I suspect such a thing would start as fairly basic car based one, with the bikes section added in as an optional extra.

I could possibly do some 3D models if you need them. I'm not great but could maybe get something to get you by in the meantime.

What you using for the 3d stuff?
OpenGL or similar?
Software engine?

I'm only interested as I'm busing writing a software engine for a bit of fun. Not expecting much from it but more of a learning experience than being useful.

I could maybe help with models but don't really have much experience...

Maybe I'm alone but I would quite like to hear about how you planning to do the details (it would be cool to see a game take shape starting with the basics!)

Somthing with a Gran Turismo feel would be great, tuning and the like. How else are we going to get a Busa with turbo and NOS? Wink

Yeah, would definitely be interested to see what you can do. Smile Would you be able to get stuff to me in Max5 (.MAX) format?

DirectX to begin with. I'll probably get hold of a few 3D models etc and knock out a few proof of concept demos first. There's a very high chance of me going over to OpenGL for the game itself though.

Guess I can keep you up to date with progress etc and show you work-in-progress demos as I go.

Once I get a couple of models (a bike/rider and a few buildings etc), I can probably have something up and running within two weeks.

Like Need For Speed, the old one, with the cars and all on the road. As said there's any amount of racing games, but I always enjoy "free roam" games such as GTA or Driver, with race modes too, a mix between Road Rash and Grand Theft Auto would be sweet.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
