I have bought a Kawasaki ER5 which I need to restrict and have a few questions.

-Do restrictor kits generally affect the whole rev-range or only the top-end? I have briefly ridden the bike (out of necessity, of course Wink ) and was impressed with its low-down grunt; it is, after all, a twin-cylinder. Since torque usually peaks well before power, is there any chance I could simply get a rev-limiter fitted to achieve 33bhp without destroying the torque?

- I’ve heard that standard ER5’s hit 60mph in 4.5 seconds; not bad considering I paid £700 for an ex-training 1999 model. However, mine will only produce 33bhp instead of 50 (officer), and the bike weighs a hefty 170-something kgs. Can anyone give me a rough guestimate as to how fast it should reach the national speed limit on my favourite B-road? As an extra point of reference, I only weigh 65kg/10stone pre-helmet-jacket-gloves-boots.

Thanks anyone.

The restriction limits peak power, so up through the rev range it should be fine up untill it hits fairly high revs where it would normally make 48bhp, but instead it will only make 33.

restriction will have a big effect on 0-60 time as you will get less power from high revs in a low gear.
