So the bike's got to take a back seat this winter unfortunately, and it's time to go back to the joys of Birmingham's public transport system...

The ER-5 is a little dead and I don't have the cash to fix it all in one go Sad.

Oh well... on the bright side: There's a winter even shittier than usual weather time of year project. Overhaul and repaint. Time to get rid of that grim yellow!

These threads usually end up with the same replies:

1) I'm a winter biker hear me roar!

2) I use the car because bikes are shit

3) Response to 2 - You're a chicken blah blah blah

4) G pops up at some point and says it's all about the right kit

I'd like to think with a set of stock YZF450 wheels and some AT tyres, I'll be ripping it up on the bike this winter. First time ever. Smile

Indeed - at the moment, shorts and a t-shirt Wink... well, maybe perforated leathers for the safety sort.
Loading the dirt bikes into the van yesterday I put a fleece on - then took it off as I was sweating - apparently air temp was 20 degrees then!

Binge - don't expect knobblies to be better on hard pack/ice, they can be worse.
Running at 8psi or so helped on the KTM, but tubliss (which works as a massive rimlock too) or something needed for that.
As I keep going on about, studs definitely help Smile.

Rear tyre tread is down to the "CHANGE ME NOW!" indicator, and there are numerous engine problems...
A leaky/gushing coolant system for one.

Well the weather hasnt been too bad temp wise for the last couple of days rainy as hell though but it was at least -3 here before that for a few days, well nights.
It all ads to the riding experience and I love it to be honest. summer sticky roads everybody and his dog are out riding and winter hardly anyone, fantstic. ride safe.
Location west coast of Scotland by the way

It's not winter until the foam of your seat freezes rock solid. At present it's spring-like. Bit blustery but nothing too extreme.

Correction. It's not winter until the water that's soaked into the foam of your seat has turned into an ice-block.

I got to work to find my testicles had retreated to my chest cavity.

Its all about the right gear. Sorry to be a bore, but theres no need to be that cold in the UK.

amen to that and I got my heated grips in already just in case as i'm not doing ANOTHER winter with numb fingers that go into the worst pain imaginable (and I've been through a few) when I get into the warm office at work 25 miles later

The foam in the saddle had filled with water through tears in the cover. This subsequently froze overnight and was, to all intents and purposes, a big block of ice.

But no, there was a spot of humorous exaggeration. Of course my bollocks hadn't actually retreated to my chest cavity (that not being possible without surgery), I chose that to illustrate that it was cold in the trouser department.

But thanks, I know how to dress to keep warm, and am quite content with the kit I wear. If you can suggest a way of dressing that will magically unfreeze my saddle, I'm all ears.

My feet, legs, tackle and everything below the waist seem impervious to the cold. It's the bits from the waist up that I have to really wrap up well Laughing But in recent years the winters have been largely mild, though the last couple have been pretty harsh at times.

Still only getting cold hands. Everything else is toasty warm, and I'm only wearing a T-shirt and Aldi jacket on the top.

I'm much warmer on my bike when it's 2°c and I'm doing 75mph than sitting here now in shorts and T-shirt at my computer because I'm not aloud to turn the heating above 18°c Neutral
