....you filter to the front of a traffic queue, waiting at temporary traffic lights which are red, the red light goes out, and nothing else happens? Do you go? Proceed with caution?

I was stuck at the front in the same situation today and after a few minutes pondering I decided to just go.

What should you do?

Temporary traffic lights can be ignored, seeing as its not a proper road signal. I wouldn't recommend it though.

If the oncoming traffic has stopped then tentatively go (I'm assuming here that the yellow and green lights where just broke - not the full set).

what do you people do when you stop at lights which are red, and they stay red as they dont detect that you are waiting?

Ive tried everything i can think of and normally end up riding straight through them :/

Well if the red has gone out but none of the others have come on then it's either got a broken bulb and is trying to show green, or the lights have just broken completly so I'd say proceed with caution as no red light, no need to wait.

Check for traffic first - If you can see all the way to the other lights and no cars are coming, no problem.

If you can't see ahead, proceed with caution.

Check ahead for possible pull in locations, if you meet something going the other way, just pull in and wait till its clear

That is a tricky one, by law, you wait until they change to green, if you go through a red light, you are comitting an offence.

Get off and push it along the pavement?

If the red has gone out, and traffic is waiting at the other end, I would proceed with caution. Cool

There's one near me which does this, it doesn't ever seem to pick up my bike so if you come across it in the evening and there's no cars to trip the sensor you get stuck. Usually I'm turning left through the junction though so if it doesn't spot me I just edge out to see if it's clear and go for it.

I once had lights stay red on me for a good 10 minutes, i would normally have got bored and gone for it, but there was a police car behind me Doh!
The lights were part of a large system of lights where it is easy to see if there are any cars at any of the other lights. after a few minutes the police car beeped his horn, i turned around and he flashed at me. I checked it was clear and went through. he either knew about the problem , or assumed the lights were faulty.
In that instance i dont think i did wrong (neither did he), but if the police car had turned up just as i had gone though the lights then i would have got a ticket :/

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Those bastard lights.

There was a set of them at Chelsea Harbour for, God, it felt like YEARS Shocked They were annoying cos you couldn't see what was coming from the top of the Harbour road so they were dodgy to go against.

I was used to them, but I went out on the back of a mate once who wasn't so familiar with them, and on the way home very late at night, he sat for what seemed like at least ten minutes. I thought he would just whizz thru them without batting an eyelid, but he sat there meek as a lamb waiting for them to change, till I realised he was being "polite" cos I was on the back, and prodded him and said, "Just go, we'll be here forever otherwise."

Heh.

Another time I was pulled up at them, at the front of a car and I thought "Stuff this, I'm off, no traffic coming." But I had neglected to notice that the unmarked car behind me had uniformed plod inside Shocked The minute I looked in my mirrors and saw they were following behind me, I KNEW I was gonna get it. But luckily they believed my "I'm nearly home and I'm worried about running out of juice" story (true). They asked me where I lived, I told them (literally at the other end of the road), and hastened off with nowt but a telling off (hoorah for red lipstick and a girlie smile). But the buggers still came down my street to check that was where I had pulled up, anyway. Doh!
