Stupid question coming up!
When coming to a stop or filtering through traffic i always hold in my clutch and blip the throttle to let people know im there.
Will this do any damage?
i rev it to around 5k.
Thanks

You've damaged it beyond repair already. I'll give you 50p for it.

I don't bother blipping the throttle. Just means they'll see you as a bit of a wanker.

I have to blip the throttle on the MZ to keep it running because it doesn't idle. It does make me feel like a total pratt though. If you don't need to do it, don't do it. Simples.

Is there any logical reason why you think it would damage the bike???

My cg wouldn't idle on the way home from the mot today, so had to keep revving it.

a load of teenagers laughed at the large fella revving the tiny motorbike lol

Got a couple of boy racers thinking I was looking a duel as well!

Personally I like hearing a bike, purely for the noise but your average road user will think cock...

I used to ride around London on a Bonneville with open pipes, most people seemed to know I was there.

(until some scummy shite stole it)

Nothing to make me think it will damage it that's why I asked and just fell safer when people know were i am. Would rather people think I'm a nobb than not be able to walk

Not sure if there's any point doing it when coming to a stop, however I do often do it when filtering.
In my experience, only worth it on a bike with a reasonably loud can.
But do that compared to not doing it on a bike with a quiet can and it seemed noticeably more people noticed me.

All I do is quickly pull the clutch in and blip the throttle to reasonably high rpm.

Providing the bike is warm, it shouldn't damage it.

As G mentioned, as long as the engine is warm, it shouldn't do any damage.

For the record, when filtering I tend to try to keep the revs slightly higher than "normal" riding, often meaning that I knock it down an extra gear so that the higher revs can be more easily heard

I always blip slightly when pulling up to traffic lights and other junctions. I think it is because I am used to either my moped which had a dodgy electric start and wouldn't idle or my other gs which only had kickstart and also didn't idle.

My new gs does idle easily but I still do it out of instinct.

This (but with different bikes) Laughing

Not sure how far the noise of a bike travels forwards anyway? My can is noisy as fuck, certainly the cars behind must notice it, but how far forward does the sound project?

I generally find slipping the clutching a pulling a minger (try shouting "come here often?" as you pass) gets a lot of attention and ensures I'm noticed by all.

The Doppler effect means that yeah, when travelling at speed, all the sound sort of bunches up until you pass (to really water down the physics of it) but at slow filtering speed it will be heard. I do exactly the same thing, but not for the cars, but for fucking zombie pedestrians. You'll be shocked at the number of times people just step out in traffic. Once i revved up to 9K and the dope still didnt notice me. I do it so i dont hit a pedestrian. Not because i care about the pedestrian, but because i dont want to drop me baby and scratch her! Judging by your avatar I don't think pedestrians will cause much of a problem Laughing

Get a loud can, keep your headlights on. Blipping is more likely to make people think you're being clever and try to pull in on you. Car drivers are divs like that.

No it won't damage the bike

Tried a little flash of the pass light the other day if I could see cars that were close enough to each other for me to have to slow down a lot. That worked pretty well Thumbs Up

Gave a hand up thanks so I hope I didn't piss people off Laughing
