Make this a short one..
Basically, my previous drug pile was this:
https://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w182/OllieePaul/drugpile2.jpg.
That has now been brought down to this:
https://i54.tinypic.com/t6z2o0.jpg.
From left to right:
Mix of 5/10mg 12-hour release Oxycodone.
5mg instant release Oxycodone.
500mg Paracetamol caplets.
Now, as far as I'm concerned, this reduction is vastly better. I appreciate Oxycodone is STRONG (Roughy ~3x stronger than heroin orally). Those 3 drugs manage my pain to a very tolerable level and most of the time almost eliminate it which I am happy as larry with.
But when I walk into the Doctor's, sit down and say I am running out of these medications, it's always the same:
Walk in,
Sit down,
Ask for more medication as I'm running out, but they still work very well,
15 minute lecture on how the drugs are so dangerous and addictive,
5 minutes of implying I'm a liar just wanting drugs,
eventually get the medications that make me pain free.
Whilst I appreciate someone of my age (18) on some of the strongest opiates known to man and a lot of them is a bit mad, but when I walk in with my Mum asking for the required medication and then proceed to feel like I'm being treated like a liar really grinds my gears.
I also appreciate that whilst he does get people coming in just for drugs as they are addicted/dependant, surely as a trained GP should be able to tell the difference between a 35 year old addict coming in and an 18 year old with a MASSIVE accident on his record that needs them to function.
As the Doctor said, this stuff is usually for patients with disseminated cancer and other things with an objective proof of the source of pain whereas with me they have just have my say-so. Whilst this should be an expressed concern, I resent being treated as if I am just wanting drugs for the sake of it where in reality I need them to function as no lower painkillers work, we started at codeine and tried alternatives/stronger meds until we found what worked.
Does anyone else ever feel like this or would hate being treated the same way?
TL;DR: I use very strong opiates a lot to function, when I want more I get treated and made to feel like I'm a liar, it sucks, anyone else get this or would resent it? ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

If you were a liar, you would consciously be giving false information. I dont know how much pain you are in without drugs, so I dont know if you need the super-strength stuff. But I do know that a friend who had his appendix removed was on morphine, he was in hospital and there was some kind of click to use delivery system. He was using it quite a bit and he thought he needed it as much as he was using it, but they reduced the amount he could self administer. Afterwards, he realised some of the need for more, was cos its rather moreish.
Opiates are serious stuff, so I think it's good they give a bit of thought to whether you really need it. Bottom line is, they are wary, but you still got the stuff, so all works out ok really.
But yeah it is shit if it feels like someone is accusing you of doing something you havnt. In this case lying. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |

Put it this way, without drugs about all I can do is get up, take a piss in the morning and wander back to bed led there writhing in pain until I take some medication, can't sleep and can't function.
I'm glad they are giving though tbh instead of mindlessly giving it to me, but yeah it's just the being treated and implying I'm lying that got to me, really inappropriate and unprofessional. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Get used to it. Thankfully my GP is damned good, doesn't stop the pain clinic calling me in to experiment with dosages and new drugs to see if they can get me onto something new and exciting while querying the ongoing problem and pain levels. Thankfully my consultant is also pretty decent and the regular MRI scans offer even the most sceptical eye an unarguable picture of things.
TL;DR: Being a spacker ain't fun, man up. |
Double post, the pain clinic is my next stop I believe.
My removal operation isn't for another 18 weeks at least, so guess I need a referral. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

The doctor may well find that nine out of ten people who are in your position are actually lying; addicted to the drugs, wanting to sell them on etc.
So that being the case, it doesn't seem unreasonable for the doctor to at least try and ascertain what's going on. Often the most desperate are the best at giving a convincing lie .
In retrospect, it'd have been nice if the GP I saw realised they were happily prescribing me another big box of addictive pills that it turned out didn't massively help. |

Was the accident a very recent thing and you are still mending?
ie broken bones, internal injury? |
The metal in my legs and the wedge-shape of the 4 broken vertebrae is what is causing the pain.
The metal in my legs is due for removal in 18 weeks but only one IM nail as the other is not ready to come out yet so I will still be in a little pain from that but it's the worst one that is coming out, luckily. They are both femoral IM nails.
The vertebrae pain I'll be lumbered with for life.
The accident happened in October 2009 but I had no real pain at all until an accident in June 2010 which meant I rolled along the floor at 50mph, it tossed my legs about and since then I've had severe pain. I've had X-Rays since to make sure nothing is amiss and everything seems fine, which is very, very odd.
I plan to be off the drugs as soon as is possible. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."
