Hey guys, First post.

I need some help with my bike its a YBR 125 '05 i bought it in September and when looking at it everything worked fine. Took it home and insured it slept, got home from work, eager to ride it and put the key in and the electric start just clicked at me it starts fine with the kick start, any ideas?

Battery knackered or low on charge? Does it start okay if you've just been for a ride? Also, the '05's battery needs topping up, so check the water level as well as it may well have been neglected and dropped very low. Then charge it and try again.

First thing you want to do is get yourself a cheap multimeter, from fleaBay or Maplin. For under £10 plus a bit of time on YouTube finding out how to use it, it will take a lot of the guesswork out of electrical issues. It'll quickly pay for itself in money and time.

Then buy or find yourself a YBR Haynes or workshop manual - buying supports the people that write them, and a printed copy is always handy for actually finding things on the bike.

This could be a busted starter, or it could be a fault in the relay - just because it's clicking doesn't mean it's properly closing the circuit. Best way to tell is with a multimeter, checking for voltage at the relay input and output, and the starter live input.

Mine did this after I'd been faffing with the headlamp. Pull the lamp off, and open up the black rubber bag thing behind it. Disconnect the switch connector, clean it out & stick it back together with some vaseline.

Having had this issue on a CG125 (very similar), and read up on it the two most likely solutions were:

1) Battery (try charging it up and/or topping it up rather than replacing it)
2) Starter motor area needs cleaning out (or words to that effect).

Cleaning/squirting WD40 into switches etc can't be a bad idea either (in fact it'd probably prevent other problems later down the line if you did, even if it doesn't fix your issue right now).

Battery must be totally nackered if it wont start after a ride. Either that or your reg/rec is shot too.

Surely it be blowing bulbs if that was faulty?

I suppose a cheap multimeter and a few hours playing with it would benefit the OP.

mate its a flat battery, dont worry about the multi meter etc just get a battery, ive worked on 100's of ybrs and have never had a single problem with the charging system... the battery it self on the other hand is a cheap peice of crap that doesnt like the cold very much... get your self a new one job done Wink

the battery on the mark 1 ybr is not a maintanence free battery so you could check the lvls and make sure the battery isnt low but to be honest the batterys dont cost much more than £20 so just get one anyways Wink

On the mark 2 ybr they changed the battery (among other things, fuel injection etc) to a sealed for life battery that was better, if your battery is black and sealed then u have one of these gel batterys and need a new one.

It sounds like u have a mark 2 ybr and having a gel battery would explain why it didnt charge on your ride, because once there flat...they tend to stay flat, so again... go shopping for a new one Very Happy
