 Posted: 20:39 - 15 Nov 2010 Post subject: Not happy with my 04 R1! |
 |
|
For some time now I have been indenial and I very unhappy with my 04 R1!
I love the way the bike looks and it handles great, the brakes are superb and my twin exhaust pipes sound and look great however I keep remembering how amazing my 00 R1 felt!
I remember how I used to whack open the throttle on the 00 R1 and it shot off crazyily in any gear from any rev range with the front reaching for the sky...i really miss that!
With my 04 R1 to get that effect I have had to put 15 teeth on the front sprocket which means I now only get 80 miles from a full tank, the standard gives 100 miles with the standard 17 teeth on the front sprocket. (town riding)
Dont get me wrong the 04 R1 is great in everyway except for the power delivery in standard form, especially in the lower rev range its BLOODY DREADFUL FOR A LITRE BIKE!
Especially when compared to the other litre bikes of its year, ahem ZX10, GSXR1000!
I cant live with almost £5000 tied up in something im not completely happy with so I am getting rid and buying an old R1 back, but not that old, gonna go for the 02-03 R1 (5PW) as its very similar to the carbed 00 R1 and has that great torque in the lower rev range.
In this day and age a sports litre bike should have tremendous torque from tick over in standard form throughout the rev range period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the hell where Yamaha thinking on the 04-06 R1, the 07-08 R1 is not as bad but it still doesnt have the torque like the 98-03 R1s have.
If I wanted to rev a bike to get power I would have got a 600cc bike or even better a Suzuki RG or Aprilla RS250!
I dont want to work for the power because I work 8.30am to 4.30pm monday to friday now why the hell should I have to work on a 1000cc sports bike especially an R1!
I just wanna sit back, chill and take off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have gone from 125cc to 1000cc and I can honestly say I love having a litre bike I really dont enjoy the lower cc bikes at all period, they just dont do it for me!
Dont care about track days or how great bikes are on the track, I ride on the public highways and just simply have no interest in going on a track, been to many tracks days to watch mates and it just dont do it for me, same way drugs like coke dont do it for me never have, been out clubbing and everyones sniff sniff away, gimme ameratto mixed with cranberry juice and 3 shots of absinthe and im good for the night!
I just want to simply open the throttle and take off with the only effort involved is in me concetrating on the road and hanging on for dear life!
IVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!
Gonna go pick up the my new 03 R1 tomorrow afternoon and my black 04 R1 is gonna go for sale spring next year or now if anyone wants. (The lord of rings sticker stuff wont be on the bike lol!)
Got some carbon akropovic exhausts (oval slash cut ones, not the ones in the picture), fabbri doubble screen, power commander 3 usb, for sale if any 04-06 R1 readers are reading this. (pm me lol)
RANT OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feels nice to be honest with ones self...lol!!! ____________________ Elen sila lummen omentielvo! |

80 miles to a tank
The 1000 im currently using has done 130 on a tenner.. and the lights still not on.. commuted on it and its so cheap baring in mind I enjoy living in the low rev range on the way to work..(3k) too damn cold to shoot off!
Ive not got another 1000 to compare, but if I compare the handling and power aspect to the 600 I had... I'd prefer the 1000 for the all over power, rather than the "rev the tits off it" 600, instant pull in any gear, but the flickable nature of the 600 was awesome, no damper and softer suspension setup...felt like it was solid on the corners.
I personally wouldnt have thought they would make such drastic changes to a bike so well sold, but they may have! an 06 GSXR definitely has the power to lift to the sky and the power to pull any gear at any speed with sheer force, but like I said, no other 1000's to compare it to.
Hope your next bike is alot better |

Gotta admit i didnt like the power delivery on the 04 bike i test rode ( standard trim). Very lax.
The 98 R1 and the 00 R1 ive ridden, both have far more torque which makes the bike far more useable imo. Can cruise in high gears and just wind on from low revs without much lag. Yet prod the box a bit and wind on that bit harder and it turns into a loony machine. The 04 just feels like a 600! ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

Dude im not interested in any other bike other than a 1000cc sports bike.
Ive owned various cc sports bikes from 125cc to 1000cc from 2000 to 2010, thats tens years road riding!
Im unhappy with having nearly £5000 tied up in a 1000cc sports bike that doesnt have the toque that its predcessors have!
I dont care about the car vs a bike bussiness, as I already know there is no contest there, bit like a 3 day old baby in a competition to do 10 press ups with a special opps solider from the English army, no contest!!!
Its simply about my needs not being met by the 04 R1 but these needs were met by my 00 R1 and from my mates 02-03 R1.
My needs are to be lazy and open the throttle and have the power there instantly.
My ridding style is go fast in a straight line, im not interested in getting my knee down, cornering like a pro with knees nearly touching the floor dont do it for me, so long as I can take a corner decently im cool.
As for track days I think i would be happy on a Kawasaki ZXR400 or Aprilla RS250, theres no way I would want to use an R1 or any litre bike on the track I feel that would be too much for me but on the road a litre bike is great!
Instant take overs on the road especially on the motor way, open the throttle and take off, close throttle and land.
LOL!
I have owned an 00 R6 & GSXR600 K1 respectively for 3 years and a Honda VFR NC30 for almost 2 years and prior to that an Aprilla RS125 for one year.
I have experienced these bikes on the road im not a racer nor want to be or pretend to be, and know exactly what my heart wants and is going to get hence my rant.
The manufactuer excuse is pathetic Yamaha got blown away by Suzuki ever since the GSXR1000 K1 came out and performance wise Yamaha is struggling to keep up, dont get me wrong there bikes are great but the competition is fierce only the new 09 R1 has put Yamaha back near the level playing field aginst the GSXR 1000.
If an individual cant handle the power of a bike then they need to man up and be honest to them self and not be indenial and get some thing they can handle.
98 R1 was termed as the widow maker and not for noobs lol
A real mans bike or death wish?
That inspires me!
I like the fact that I must respect the bike and its power or im fucked, I dont get that from my 04 R1!!!!
The 00 R1 and 02-03 R1 wispers that in my ear everytime I get on!
I hear the wisper respect me and my power or I will fuck you up!
Sometimes it used to say one One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them!
The 04 R1 didnt say that at all hence why I had to put the stickers on, now realised it really dont have the same effect hence extreme denial on my part.....what an epic FAIL! ____________________ Elen sila lummen omentielvo! |
