Hey all, just a bit of background stuff before I go into things, at Uni we have to do a module where we have to design a product and attempt to take it to market. Getting marks on how well recieved the product is at a 'Dragons Den' style interview panel consisting of lecturers and local entrepeneurs.

Sadly its group work, so it means that no one person has much of a say! But the idea my group seems to like is making a bluetooth adaptor to allow motorcyclists to answer their phone while they're riding.

So what I'm asking is does this appeal to you at all? And secondly does something like this already exist? I've seen loads of wireless radio kits (rider to rider & pillion to rider) but nothing like that to allow you to answer your phone. But most of the bluetooth adaptors clip onto the lower lip of the helmet, how stable is this? And is there a better way of doing it?

Personally, I don't like the product. And I don't think it'll actually work, all the riders who I know in person wouldn't use it either. I see it as just another distraction while I'm riding. That and if you've ever had a conversation with someone when they're driving with a handsfree kit they sound like they're stoned and only talk crap anyway.

Some salesman huh?

Any feedback on this would be great,
Mike

Edited for clarity: Thanks Shaggy D.A

I just used this

https://www.auroracell.com/sony_bt10_1.jpg

What I would rather is have a blue tooth remote that went on my Handlbars.

Skip song, play song, answer call, volume up, volume down etc.

Many thanks for that!

I'd seen the types where they clip onto the lower lip of the helmet and was more meaninig about any other types of fittings. And if anyone uses one of these already, are they any good?

There's a helmet with hands free bluetooth already built in. Also has a few other little cool features, not sure if the actual helmet is any decent tho.

On liking the product, no I wouldn't like it. I see enough Muppet's who cant talk and drive a car, I don't fancy seeing whether or not I can or cant ride a motorbike while talking on the phone. Too much of a distraction IMHO.

I dont do phonecalls when I'm on my bike. If someone calls while I'm riding then they will call back if its important. Riding takes my full concentration to enjoy the road / scenery / noise of the bike.

People use sat nav and MP3 players.

I would use a sat nav, but I wouldn't want to be able to use my phone while riding.

I'll admit the wireless GPS is pretty nifty although I'm not going to change from my Shoei lid for a few gimmicks.

Viper do a nice one. Got it myself. Hands free call at passed legal speeds, on the track of course officer Shocked
plus you can listen to mp3, sat nav etc....
Plenty of other co's offer it as add ons. Never mind the co's that offer it as a add on to any helmet.

Sorry mate, but the big guys got there 1st.

Hands-free is okay but I prefer not to be distrcted by conversation when on my bike.

A few weeks ago I saw someone riding a delivery scooter whilst tapping out a text on his mobile. Didn't lift his eyes off the phone in nearly 30 seconds.

I have one of those StarCom1 things, mostly use it for talking to my friend when we go riding. Its pretty good for speed up at about 60 then you need to start talking slowly and pronouncing your words carefully. I married it up to my iPod, keep meaning to do the iPhone (yes I know!) too but haven't been bothered.

It has four buttons (one to switch between bluetooth devices, volume up and down and one to switch to phone calls) and mounts on to the bottom of my helmet. Would I use it to take calls? Perhaps but I would rather focus on the road and what im doing. Its too expensive to use just to take occasional phonecalls with.

I use a scala rider bluetooth kit with built in fM radio, also get sat nav instructions through it and always on the phone.
Did buy a viper bluetooth helmet but the polystyrene inner was in the way of my glasses so flogged it without wearing it outside the house.

I use a cheapshite pillion-rider intercom for the ipod, phone/bike-bike radio when i'm riding.

Completely hands free, ipod on my right arm so i can change tracks... simple.

Complicated setup though, lotsa wires through the bike but heyho.

Personally, no I would not voluntarily use such a device, and find the notion completely naff. Firstly, answering the telephone whilst riding would be in my view a great way to ruin the enjoyment of the ride. Secondly, I confess I despise telephones anyway in almost any situation, how on earth did the human race cope before the devil invented mobile phones to plague them wherever they went, infernal things ! I like to ride bikes as it gives me a particularly good escuse not to answer the phone.

In my opinion telephones are only welcome in/on vehicles as means of calling breakdown or emergency assistance, can't understand why anyone would want to answer phone calls (particularly business calls) whilst out riding, I selfishly possess a mobile telephone purely to benefit me, not to enable people I don't want to talk to to contact me at their convenience.

Not that I'm an antisocial loner of course.
