I'd just like to take this opportunity to say a big hello to you all ,as I can't seem to find a place to introduce myself.
Been riding for a while now,I started off with a cg125 then got myself a divvy xj600 but got rid of that about 4 months ago,and bought a honda xr 125.
All I wanted was something to commute to work and back,a round trip of about 22 miles.
My question is,i'm looking to buy some new all year round clothing but will keep me warm and dry in the winter too.Helmet, gloves, jacket and boots, but not to sure what to go for.I have about £500 to spend at the moment maybe some more later on, I know this isn't a great amount in the biking world.
Been looking at these boots/gloves, what do you peeps think,to much for a small commute?
Also anyone got any ideas for a jacket?

Those gloves look decent. I've just bought a cheap pair of generic lobster-mitts with a Thinsulate lining, and they're much better than my old fingered ones.
I currently use cheap boots with Sealskinz socks, but I do think it's worth spending on good boots if you've got the money, as injuries start at the toes and work upwards. Those ones look ace.
Jackets, I like my RST Enduro in fluorescent orange. About £80, long, waterproof, warm, plenty of pockets, saves faffing around with a separate hi-vis or getting sloppy about wearing one.
RST use long zips rather than the standard short ones, so I also got RST textile trousers. The longer zips do seem to help to keep the weather out.
Whatever helmet you go for, I'd recommend adding a helmet skirt to cut down on noise and drafts. I currently use a Motrax StopWind 3 which does help, but I've just noticed that they now do a "deluxe" skirt which looks more substantial. |

Hi
Welcome, I use RST rift pants and short jacket which are good most of the year, i wera a t-shirt and a merino wool jumper underneath the jacket in the winter with ist liner in as its very warm and thin.
I find this combo is fine in all but absolute cold or heavy rain, in my rucksack i have a army gortex jacket for heavy rain , it has been modified so that the hood is removed but still zips up the neck under the helmet to keep rain out, along with this i have a pair of plain black waterproof walking pants for heavy rain, they have a long zip on the leg for use with boots, i use these as the rst pants are about 3 years old now and tend to leak around the bollock area in heavy rain, my gloves are spada winter waterproof gloves one is all leather the others is a slight mix which i got of ebay for £18, bargain like new, and for the summer a pair of rst rift gloves, boots are hein gericke gortex used all year round, 3 years old and bone dry.
