It is not actually MINE! Confused

Picture the scene, nearly a year ago a girl goes in to buy her very first set of wheels (well this wasn't exactly her first but since the other lasted all of 2 days she never really did anything with it). Usual stuff is done, bike put together, loan to pay for it sorted, salesman takes girl in office and she signs bits of paper and is told (after asking since girl never bought a vehicle before so wouldn't have a clue) that she need worry about nothing, all documentation will be sorted......Great Thumbs Up

At least thats what I thought up until now, when after being paranoid that I hadn't received a letter reminding me the bikes tax needs renewing. I decided that I know it does (since the big 07/04 on the tax disk was a bit of a give away!) so off I go to hunt out bits of paper needed to tax that I have, insurance certificate, Log book........then it's spotted Doh!

Turns out the V5 shows the previous owner as DK Motorcycles, and the box where 'new keeper' information also holds a rather large stamp that says......DK Motorcycles!! My name is no where to be seen Confused

Now I'm a little confused, my pappy got rather 'hot under the collar' about it and has told me I need to ring the DVLA first thing in the morning to report the 'error' since as of sunday I will have no tax and I can not get more since it's not my name on the paper!

I'm lost, what should I do? brand new registration form since I can't fit my details onto the one I have thanks to that dirty get stamp Confused Was the dealer not meant to deal with this kind of thing? And if not, why on earth would that ***<insert obscenity here>*** tell me not to worry since they do?! Crying or Very sad

It is probably something like DK motorcycles lost/ forgot to send the slip off to the DVLA, or the slip got lost in the post on the way to the DVLA. Well it will be able to get sorted, will just take a short amount of time and a bit of poking of the DVLA, and they'll then contact DK Motorcycles to ask if they've sold the bike to you and if you should be the registered keeper.

Hopefully will be not too much hassle. Thumbs Up

You hold the v5, I assume DK have put their stamp over the previous keeper bit - just sign the new keeper box and date it when you got the bike, then take it with you to buy tax - they will take the v5 off you and send it off for you.

At least, thats how it worked for my first bike.

Well I take it you'll be coming round to DK with me and shauny poo tomorrow then. He needs to give them a piece of his mind about his V5 documents too. Except in his case they still haven't appeared even after the manager has been informed. Confused I just wanna see shaun give them some of his attitude. Laughing

Or he could just fill the form in and apply for the v5. Go to the post office and get the form. Happens a lot when buying from garages.

He could but they have said they will sort it and he wants to see what he can get from them for free like. He's been in twice in the past month and both times they have took his phone number and said they will call within a few days, still no call anyway so he is going to go in and have words.

You can't use the green new keepers supplement now, it's only valid for 2months, you'll have to wait for the proper V5 to come through, I had a similar problem with the Subaru and am still waiting for a V5 to get sent to my correct address, I managed to tax it by taking various documents to the DVLA office, but was an insane 2.5hr wait.

I may be showing my ignorance here, but I didn't think it had to be the name of the person who is going to ride the bike on the V5, providing you have the V5.

For example, my old car was registered in my brothers name (we shared it) but as he hadn't got his licence yet, I was the only driver and it was insured in my name, I managed to buy tax for it.

What they are checking with the V5 is that the vehicle exists and what its taxation class is, they make sure the MOT and insurance certificate match the registration number, doesn't matter whose name is on anything.

Of course I could be wrong, but you wont loose anything trying, the post office woman is hardly going to come round your house and take the bike off you.

The same almost happened to me when I bought my car from the dealer. I had to ring up and nag him to send the form off, and then I had to ring DVLA to check he'd sent it and one in my name was being sent out to me!

Really it should be the responsibility of the dealer to make sure they send it off, but you also have a responsibility to ensure your side of the paperwork is in order and, if necessary, chase the dealer to get his ass in gear!

I suspect Stinkywheely may be correct, when I used to tax the works bikes they were never registered to me, but that wasn't a problem in the post office.
