In my eyes, no leather, no ride.
I would feel a bigger twat if I lost all my skin.

Leather Jeans, Cordura (not denim, wranglers are made of denim, may as well wear shorts) Jacket.

The reason being the jeans allow you good movement and excellent protection from sliding BUT you just keep on sliding. The cordura is warm, waterproof, has thicker armour and slows down your slide before you hit something.

Hein Gericke make a hybrid motorcycle trouser (fabric and leather) in their Touareg range, hardwearing, comfortable, and stylish enough to almost be 'street wear' but with good abrasion resistance and built-in armour, these will be my next bike trousers. They also do denims (as in blue jeans) designed for use on bikes, MUCH thicker denim and with armour where it is needed, not as safe as leather though by a long chalk.

Leather without armour would protect against skin abrasion, however the leather on the sticky-outy bits of people tend to wear out first, so the armour not only protects you from hitting things, but also as something to "wear-through".

In summer I either have a 2-piece leather suit that I am trying to slim into Rolling Eyes , or I wear just my leather trousers and Cordura jacket.

If it is really hot, then a set of armoured Hood jeans which are nice and cool, and my cordura jacket half-unzipped (last of the rebels Shocked ).

Skin/flesh/bone wears away at an alarming rate on tarmac/concrete Shocked , its a bit like a rather coarse cheese-grater Rolling Eyes .

Providing they are proper bike leathers, yes although impact protection is not so good. I highsided my GPZ500s at 70mph a couple of years ago on my bellstaff leather jeans, slid down the road on my arse at an alarming rate (you could feel the heat of the friction). I am still wearing the leathers, after a coat of black polish, you can hardly see where I went down (the stitching is intact because if they are properly designed, the stitching shouldn't be the bit sliding on the road).

A mate of mine lowsided his BSA at about 20mph in some 'fashion' leather jeans and tore his knee open quite badly.

Where were you in '79 when the dam began to burst
Did you check us out down at the local show
Were you wearing denim, wearing leather
Did you run down to the front
Did you queue for your ticket through the ice and snow

Denim and Leather
Brought us all together
It was you that set the spirit free
Denim and Leather
Brought us all together
It was you that set the spirit free

Did you read the music paper from the back and to the front
Did you find out where to see your favorite band
Did you listen to the radio every Friday night
Did hang around your local record store

Denim and Leather
Brought us all together
It was you that set the spirit free
Denim and Leather
Brought us all together
It was you that set the spirit free

Do you dream of playing guitar or smashing up the drums
Maybe you can learn to play the bass
You can always be a singer like me and front the band
When on the stage we wait at your command

Denim and Leather
Brought us all together
It was you that set the spirit free
Denim and Leather
Brought us all together
It was you that set the spirit free

It was you - that set the spirit free
It was you - that put us here today
It was you - that filled the concert halls
It was you - that set the spirit free

Denim and Leather
Brought us all together
It was you that set the spirit free
Denim and Leather
Brought us all together
It was you that set the spirit free

[Repeat to end]

it would rather depend on the length of your hair and whether you smelled of patchouli and jasmine in 1981 Embarassed

ahhhh, god bless "hippy juice", i remember it well.....

1st thing you did when you had a new denim or leather was to thoroughly drench it in patchouli oil

I rode the NSR for 5 years with a leather jacket and jeans. I just couldn't afford to get leather trousers! But when I got the Ninja it just felt like now I *needed* leathers. Sure, falling off one or the other would hurt just as much, but I just didn't feel safe on the Ninja without leathers, whereas on the NSR it never really bothered me....
