Hi All,

I've had the bike about three years, been absolutely perfect and then last day or two suddenly been getting gear problems.

I can get into 1st and 2nd without any issues but when i try to get to 3rd (regardless of the revs) it doesn't go UNLESS i accelerate quickly (ie pull the throttle right back), the engine could be at 3k revs or 10k revs when i do this regardless thats the only situation I can get into 3rd

Above 3rd is relatively simple once i'm in third but can occasionally experience the same problem

Any ideas?

James

When was the last time it was serviced? A good oil change could help.

Correct chain tension?

Clutch adjusted correctly? / not worn?

Those are the basic things to check. If all those are okay, it could potentially be bent selector forks but thats unlikely.

How many miles has it done?

Take the gear lever off and give the pivots a good clean and greasing. A lot of Bandit gear problems turn out to be sticking/gunged up levers.

I'd suggest an oil change and check the adjustment the clutch lever.

Hi there,

Thank you for your responses,
I've heard Chain tension can effect this sort of thing before but never really
understood why

The bike is due a service, it had one about 2k ago and has done 8k

I'll do the service in the next week or two out of curiosity have anyone used their magnetic sump nuts? do they work?

With the clutch level - it's on 4 on the little dial but is there another place I can check it? I'm used to having a cable and this seems to have a reservoir so i'm a little confused how it does it's job is there anywhere I can find a service manual?

Thanks again for any help really appreciate it

If the oil hasn't been done for 6k miles or more that really won't be helping things!

Basically, as the oil collects carbon deposits it gets a tiny bit thicker. This change in viscosity then causes more friction between the clutch plates causing there to still be drive even with the clutch fully disengaged.

Do the oil and filter then report back!

With regards to the magnetic sump plugs, there is a mixed opinion. For a couple of quid extra it might be worth trying one out but I doubt it will make much difference.

Sorry I meant the service was done 2k ago not at 2k lol, it was was done at about 1k 2.5k and roughly 5/6k?

I'll get the oil changed and everything cleaned up especially as it's getting colder.

Any ideas where I can get a service manual? I was going to do sparks, water, oil, fluids and chain again but wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I should be doing at 8k

Many thanks
