Full face / Flip-up / Open face - which do you prefer?

Flip up, easier to wire an Autocom into, fits my head better, like the styling more and they're generally cooler than full face.

I like my chin and I don't fancy losing it because a flip up mech failed in a spill.

Flip up is handier in day to day life. My autocom fits in it nicely, it's easier to put my glasses on and I don't have to take it off in petrol stations.

My fullface has been demoted to track use only.

Full face for me. Personally I have no use for a flip up, so I may as well have the safer option.

I like the flip's, but found the extra weight of a Caberg did my kneck in on a sports bike . Worked fine on my KTM.

Depends on the bike, on the old Triumph it would have to be open faced with a pair of goggles.

Anything else would have to be a lightweight full face lid.

Flip up, I wear glasses and its just so much more practical, also the V-Can 210 flip up is the perfect shape for my head.

I preferr an open face and wrap-around shades.

In harsh reality though. You can't do the sort of riding I do on my sports bike with an open face, for one thing the rain gets kind of painful at anything over 70mph and they tend to act like an aerofoil at higher speeds and land up sitting about 2" above your head while strangling you with the chin strap.

In summer, that is when its warm, an open face is nice.
That's on an old tourer with large screen so still air and you need some cooling.

Otherwise flip front as I can't get the coordination right with a full face to put them on without destroying my glasses.

I see flip up as the work of satan.Worst of both worlds, only made useful by petrol stations insistance that you remove your helmet, or if you need to smoke on a rideout.

I don't smoke, and only use petrol stations that dont tell me what to do for their convenience.

I do occasionally use an open face helmet to pop to the shops or for a short commute in nice weather. Protection is less, but you can see more.

I knew someone who faceplanted a tree at highish speed in a flip up, and I believe it's possible he might be alive today, if he had been wearing a proper helmet.

I'd prefer not wearing one, but that's not practical. I'd like an open faced helmet, but all the ones I've tried tend to sit "on" my head rather than me being "in" it. The flip fronts I've tried still make me take my glasses off when putting on, taking off or flipping the front.

I guess I'll stick to full face. Again.

Full face because I'm ever so shy and with my visor down no-one can see me.

Technically, I prefer open face. Better visibility, and a greater awareness of vulnerability make you less likely to be involved in a Sudden Halt.

But I've now switched to full face even though I dislike it, because with an open face, you're just riding your luck.

I haven't tried a flip on the road. The concept seems neat, and SHARP ratings do cover the latch security, but the number of times I'd actually flip it up seem minimal. Might try one if I was a speccer though.

Currrent choice is flip front.
I have found it to be quieter than its full face counterpart, from the same manufacture.
Is much better to ride in. Even better in warm weather, when you can flip up in slow traffic and not cook.
Makes life so much easier when needing to do anything off the bike.
Was a bit concerned about the safety aspect, but after wearing one. I can't see any diffrence in the safety stakes. Its not like it will flip up on its own should it hit the ground.

Dont be fooled. They only offer the protection of an open face helmet. They safety certification is on that basis. They are not tested in the way a proper helmet is.

It's not possible for them to be as physically strong as a full face helmet. They break on impact.

If you prefer the convenience, fair enough, but don't kid yourself that it gives the protection of a full face helmet.
