Get pulled over by plod in the car, i'm popping this in general bike chat because this prob applies anyway.

Pulled out of GFs work which is on a country lane, I thought it was a 40 limit, happens to be a 30 (my mistake).

Went down the road, got lasered and the guy jumped out from behind a bush with high vis jacket.

I pulled into a little layby to get told I was doing 39mph and it was a 30mph zone, my first thought was bollocks, that'll be 3 points.

So, I get out of the car, officer is nice to me and says you're right on the limit of me doing you here, so i'll make a note of it and if we catch you again you'll be in trouble.

I think fair enough, no kittens got injured, we're all good.

So, he only put this note down in a paper notebook, my question is, what are the chances of;

1) he will upload this into a computer system
2) other plods will have access to this system to read the information

He took down my driving license number and reg plate, but never at any time ran any computer checks, if another plod done the same thing later down the line, then obviously he wouldn't see a record put down by this guy as he wouldn't look?

Obviously if you cant be good, you shouldnt get caught, but i'm only human and occasionally fuck up.

Roger - Yep, solo copper with a Focus Estate, all traffic round here have a BMW or Merc Estate.

As soon as he went down the not doing a ticket i thought ok this isnt too bad, but did think it was a bit odd, normally those stops have more people there.

Probably just some village bobby responding to the community complaining about speeders. Some forces send a letter out to drivers who get a warning but it's highly unlikely you could access this on the roadside.

Only needs one cop and his cooberating evidence ie the speed gun. I wouldn't fancy a you didn't show me argument in court!

Their notebooks are for them, usually they won't log them officially as it's too much paperwork for something that he never charged you with.

I got pulled by an under cover CID last year, he saw me pop a wheelie infront of him. Anyway he pulls me over and is saying he's going to throw the book at me. Writes out a statement of what happened and got me to (stupidly) sign it.

He says I will receive letters for dangerous driving in the post and to expect a summons. Whole thing went on for about 20 minutes, then he goes to do a u-turn, pulls up next to me and says, "You better hope I'm too busy to do the paper work".

That's the last I heard of it? Whether it flagged me in the station as someone to keep an eye on, I don't know.

I also had a similar thing happen a few years before when I was riding an RS125, got pulled by a bike copper out of nowhere. I hadn't been speeding or breaking any laws, he just pulled me. Anyway, he says that I was riding in an "anti social mannor". I asked him to explain and he said, "You know what I mean". I really didn't and he starts writing something in his note book. I asked what he was doing and he replied, "I'm putting a black mark against you, if you do anything in the next 2 years, this will come back on you".

I argued that he was being unfair, as I hadn't done anything wrong, then it comes out that he reckons he has seen me several times hooning about around where I live whilst off duty. What kind of bullshit is that, pulling me over for a made up offence and writing that in his note book?

Again, nothing ever came of that.

If he's noted the details in his pocket book, that's generally as far as it will go. But he will probably be at the same place doing speed checks again. If he catches you above the limit again he'll probably stick you on for it.

Put it this way, he did you a favour not doing you for 39mph in a 30mph. Most officers doing speed checks will prosecute anyone over 35mph. Your lucky day!

Talking to copper last Sunday, he said the rule of thumb usually is up to 10mph over limit and they will let you off.
If you were given no paperwork then you have just been given a warning.

I've told this one before but it's relevant.

Mate of mine got stopped for doing a wheelie on his way to work. Coppers gave him a sound bollocking, took all his details, then told him they have 14 days to decide if they want to take it any further and so he may or may not be geting an NIP through the post.

They stopped him again a week later. He protested his innocence and told them he'd been behaving himself. Their response was to say they knew this, they'd been watching him on the CCTV all week and were just letting him know they weren't taking the wheelie thing any further in a "But don't think I don't still have my eye on you Sonny-Jim!" kind of a way.

TL;DR Take it easy for the next couple of weeks.

The Officer will just be making a note of you for his personal record, say if you continue speeding and he see's you a few times, he's got all the occassions on file and more evidence incase he wants to take any action. 9 times out of 10 in this instance he won't be passing the info on to other officers. You would need to be doing it constantly for him to pass it on.

The best peice of advice I can give you is don't be an arse. Don't argue/sulk/whinge, apologise, explain you didn't know the limit and it won't happen again etc.
