He didn't visit the hospital for nine days after having a fit for 15 minutes. I'm sure some of the damage could have been prevented.

Yeah, you'd have thought that a mild seizure and chest pain would give you some inclination to see a doctor, especially after reading the label!

I recall a warning while in the nick not to smoke in the dry-cleaning shop as tetrachloride passed through a lit fag turns into mustard-gas.

Always important to read the warnings on an unfamiliar chemical. Also important to note that brake cleaners take many different forms, they are not all the same, and some are quite safe, and others not.

That's nothing.

I heard that thugs are pelting people with eggs that they quite easily bought from a high street supermarket.
There is absolutely no control over these substances.
It's shocking.

In that case I'll be sure to look out for Jihadi terrorists TIG welding scrap metal in enclosed spaces.

Apparently not. Even a tiny exposure causes untreatable symptoms.

Don't worry, we'll have Kate soon.

It's not using brake cleaner that's going to kill you (well, it may contribute to your death in years to come, like many chemicals), it's burning it and sniffing the fumes.

You mean tetrachloroethylene (perchloroethylene) same as in that chaps brake cleaner. If you draw the vapour through a lit cigarette then it is possible to produce phosgene but not mustard gas. However neither would be good.
Oh and yes we are ALL DOOMED avoid your local dry cleaners at all costs Rolling Eyes
